Covers Key Federal and State-Based Privacy Laws and Requirements
NEW YORK, Jan. 17, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SafeGuard Privacy today announced a unique and valuable extension to their privacy compliance-based certification program for companies. SafeGuard Privacy has partnered with BBB National Programs to provide an accountability assessment to companies who achieve CPRA certification through SafeGuard Privacy's platform to verify their self-certified compliance with key laws and best practices.
SafeGuard Privacy is a SaaS-based compliance platform that leading publishers, agencies, brands, data providers, and tech platforms use to assess, audit, and comply with global privacy laws. BBB National Programs is an independent, non-profit organization that has been trusted for more than 20 years to ensure businesses are meeting their privacy obligations under domestic and international privacy regulations.
As the partnership commences, companies who have leveraged SafeGuard Privacy's platform to conduct California's Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) self-certification and seek to demonstrate their compliance with the state law will have the opportunity to get their privacy practices verified by BBB National Programs based on a voluntary audit process following the self-certification. Once compliance is confirmed, companies will receive a verification seal from BBB National Programs that they can display on their websites and materials.
"Leveraging BBB National Programs, companies relying on SafeGuard Privacy's CPRA self-assessment platform, built to serve the needs of the largest and most complex organizations in the world, can demonstrate that they meet the highest standard of rigor," said Richy Glassberg, SafeGuard Privacy co-founder and CEO. "By making this service available to our customers, BBB National Programs is exhibiting its leadership and value as it helps create a more trustworthy, fair and efficient marketplace."
SafeGuard Privacy worked hard to launch this partnership with BBB National Programs to help companies manage key laws taking effect in 2023 and begin to prepare them for the continuous compliance demonstrations they will need as laws and compliance requirements continue to proliferate.
In the U.S., while all compliance is key, demand for CPRA support is particularly strong right now because of the current level of risk and enforcement activity.
Earlier this year, Sephora was subject to a $1M+ USD fine for violating key privacy laws. California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a settlement related to the beauty brand's alleged violations of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Under the terms of the settlement, Sephora was fined $1.2 million for data privacy violations. Sephora was one of 100+ companies that the AG's office indicates it has under review.
"Businesses that collect personal information understand the critical need to comply with privacy and data protection laws," said Dona Fraser, Senior Vice President, Privacy Initiatives, BBB National Programs. "But from small startups to global enterprises, some businesses choose to do more, and we are excited to support SafeGuard Privacy's CPRA self-certified companies with this added layer of accountability for their privacy practices to help them demonstrate their embrace of privacy best practices and dedication to compliance with privacy laws."
