Life Sciences Communications Firm ReadHealthy Communications Launches Workshop Offering Focused on Engaging with People with Disabilities
Livingston (PRWEB) July 05, 2023 -- - The virtual or in-person workshop delivers best practices for creating empathetic, inclusive spaces for people with disabilities to healthcare stakeholders, leaders, and employees across the industry -
Livingston, NJ – July 5, 2023 – ReadHealthy Communications, LLC, (ReadHealthy) a public relations and corporate communications firm that helps life sciences companies identify, solidify, and amplify their stories, announced today that it is offering workshops to pharma and biotech organizations, PR/communications agencies, hospitals, advocacy organizations, and other companies in the healthcare industry to highlight how employees can interact with colleagues, patients, and others with disabilities with empathy and respect.
This 45-minute, in-person or virtual workshop, “Words Matter: Speaking to and About People with Disabilities with Empathy and Respect,” will address issues including:
- How can organizations communicate about innovations and therapies that meet unmet need and offer hope to people with illnesses and disabilities without inferring that these patients’ lives are “hopeless”?
- How can employees and leaders be more conscious of ableist language and foster a professional environment that prioritizes inclusivity?
- What are some best-practices, do’s, and don’ts for communicating with patients and/or colleagues with disabilities?
- How can organizations ensure that virtual meetings, in-person networking events, and other professional collaboration opportunities are inclusive and accessible?
“About one in four Americans live with some form of disability, so the chance that you’re engaging with someone who has a disability in professional spaces is high,” says Jennifer Ringler, MS, Owner and Founder of ReadHealthy Communications. “After 13 years of experience as a life sciences and healthcare communications expert and a lifetime of being visually impaired as a result of a congenital vision disorder, helping others interact with people who have disabilities with respect and empathy is a personal and professional passion of mine. At ReadHealthy, when we say, ‘DEI is in our DNA,’ it’s not just a figure of speech.”
This practical, engaging workshop is appropriate for leaders and employees of large and small pharmaceutical and biotech organizations, hospitals, physician practices, physical therapy centers, elderly-care centers, advocacy organizations, public relations and communications organizations that focus on healthcare, HR professionals, and anyone who regularly works with, communicates to, or serves people with disabilities.
The launch of this workshop offering comes at the start of Disability Pride Month, recognized in July in the United States to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26,1990.
