NEW YORK, Jan. 17, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Outward Bound USA proudly announced today, the appointment of Michael Nutter, former Mayor of Philadelphia and founding member of the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, to the Outward Bound USA Board of Directors.
Outward Bound USA is honored to welcome Mayor Michael Nutter to its national Board of Directors, starting January 2023. Mayor Nutter served as the 98th Mayor of Philadelphia from 2008-2016, after nearly 15 years in the Philadelphia City Council. He holds three honorary doctorates in public service from Drexel University, Saint Joseph's University, and American University. Mayor Nutter maintains active involvement in critical areas of education, media, public policy, political campaigns, the corporate community, and academic institutions across the country, including his service on President Obama's My Brother's Keeper Advisory Council and his recent appointment as Chair of the U.S. Treasury Department's inaugural Formal Advisory Committee on Racial Equity.
Mayor Nutter's history with Outward Bound began on a pulling boat sailing expedition on the Chesapeake Bay in 1992, followed by participation on the first Urban Expedition course in Philadelphia in 2000. In an interview with Outward Bound alumni, Mayor Nutter remarked, "Outward Bound helped to propel me; to give me the confidence to take that first step and to become the Mayor of Philadelphia." He later shared, "I could not be more honored or excited to join the Outward Bound USA Board. I wish that every person in America could have some type of Outward Bound experience. Outward Bound changes lives and helps people achieve their true potential."
Together with Nancy Goldenberg and Tim Greenwood, Mayor Nutter is a founding member of the Philadelphia Outward Bound School. In 1992, they envisioned a city-based Outward Bound School dedicated to inspiring Philadelphia's young people with self-confidence and leadership skills. Today, the Philadelphia Outward Bound School is one of ten regional Schools chartered by Outward Bound USA and serves thousands of Philadelphia youth each year.
"Outward Bound USA is honored by the dedication of national leaders like Michael Nutter who model the tenets of Outward Bound, 'to serve, to strive and not to yield.' As we seek to further our mission to change lives through challenge and discovery, I look forward to working together with Michael and the OBUSA Board to expand our reach and to inspire more young people to seek bolder and brighter futures," said Ginger Naylor, CEO of Outward Bound USA.
