SANTA ELENA, Costa Rica, Feb. 28, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ONDA today announced that it has completed, via an affiliate, the acquisition of Pension Santa Elena, a 38 room hostel, in Monteverde, Costa Rica. ONDA will redevelop and rebrand the property, which is expected to launch in late 2023.
Started in July 2020, ONDA seeks to become a leading player in a newly-emerging hospitality segment that exists in the white space between hostels, hotels, and coliving, catering to the "smartphone traveler." ONDA launched its first location, in Playa Grande, Costa Rica, in January 2022, which has achieved revenue lift of 3.2x relative to the prior concept and best-in-class guest satisfaction.
"Monteverde is a logical next step for the growth of our brand," said ONDA Founder and CEO, Bill Graf. "Our Playa Grande location provides access to world class beaches and surfing. ONDA Monteverde will allow visitors to experience the region's world famous cloud forests and rainforests. It's close enough to our Playa Grande location that we expect to see significant guest traffic between the two locations, taking us one step closer to our goal of providing an integrated travel experience to ten leading Costa Rican destinations. Furthermore, ONDA Monteverde will allow us to more easily reach visitors arriving into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose."
Ran Smith who, along with his wife Nicolette, has owned and managed Pension Santa Elena since 2004, added,
"The Smith family wishes to extend a warm welcome to Bill Graf, Bernardo Verweij and the entire ONDA Hotel team to our unique and wonderful community in the clouds. For the last 19 years the Smith family has been blessed to operate one of the oldest and most respected hostels in Costa Rica. We are very proud of what the Pension Santa Elena has accomplished and provided to this community during our time of leadership, and we are confident that its legacy of innovation, collaboration and community involvement will continue and flourish under ONDA's stewardship. We wish them much success and we are very excited to see the new standard of hospitality in the village."
ONDA Monteverde will feature a variety of guest rooms, including high-end shared dorms, micros, and privates designed for remote work. Like all ONDA locations, this property will feature a destination bar + restaurant, on-site coworking space, and bulletproof internet. ONDA Monteverde will begin taking bookings later this year.
