"This festival was designed to be more than a large community celebration promoting local artisans and manufacturing businesses on a single day," said Teena Rasmussen, Director of the County of Maui Mayor's Office of Economic Development, "It was created to help grow our islands' small businesses long-term by providing them with opportunities to showcase to prospective wholesalers and connect with new customers, who will place orders year round."
Since the first festival was held in 2014, this annual event has attracted over 40,400 residents and visitors in attendance, with participating vendors reporting over $1.8 million in total festival product sales, 982 total new wholesale accounts, and 6,291 new leads gained at the two-day event.
Each year, Product Vendors have to meet certain criteria in order to participate, including having their business based on the islands of Maui, Molokai or Lanai. Products being offered for sale also have to be made in Maui County and meet a minimum 51% of their value added in Hawaii. Vendors' branding, packaging, website/online presence, and interest in and/or readiness to export were also taken into account.
According to Pamela Tumpap, President of the Maui Chamber of Commerce, "Maui County is known for its entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and unique and quality products. Both residents and visitors alike seek out truly Maui County made items to enjoy and give as gifts year-round. We are blessed that the Maui County brand is known across the globe and holds a special place in people's hearts. As we continue to connect more Maui, Molokai and Lanai manufactures with wholesalers and distributors we increase the value of our brand and share the magic of Maui County made items worldwide."
