A New Generation of Champions Find Careers That Match Their Lifestyle, says Dance Ambassador at Arthur Murray International

CORAL GABLES, Fla., Oct. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- There's a lot of discussion in the career space about how Generation Z is so different from Millennials and Baby Boomers. They are willing to work hard, but they want flexibility. And work has to have meaning for them.
A look at the owners, managers and teachers in Arthur Murray Dance Studios, a global leisure company, shows that many Gen Z members are finding both careers and a great lifestyle in teaching and competing in DanceSport.
"Gen Z is on the dance floor and in our studios, competing for championships while building careers and owning their own businesses. This really fits in with their idea of what work should be," said Victoria Regan, Arthur Murray International Dance Ambassador.
In the last few months, a number of young champions have emerged on the global ballroom dance floor, many who are also Arthur Murray Dance Studio teachers, studio owners and managers.
"It's an active lifestyle that demands hard work, without question, but it brings personal fulfillment to teachers, provides flexibility for young families and brings happiness to students," adds Regan.
While the intensity of becoming a DanceSport champion requires the same level of intense training as any other world-class athletic event, becoming a champion while owning a dance studio is a perfect fit for many young adults.
Who are these Gen Z DanceSport champions?
In the Dallas area, Nicholas Stevens, age 21, teaches and competes with his partner Bailey Kensington and recently won the Open Professional Rhythm Championship at the NorthStar Dance-O-Rama in Chicago, IL. Nicholas literally grew up in a dance studio. His parents, Claudia Marshall and Zack Stevens, own the Dallas, Plano and Grapevine Arthur Murray Dance Studios and Nicholas was taking dance lessons as soon as he was walking.
At age 13, Nicholas won the US Junior 1 Latin-American Championship. At age 14, he won the US Junior 2 and at age 15, he won in the Under 16 World Amateur Latin Championships, held in Paris, France.
In between events, he performed as part of the Dancing with the Stars tour when he was just ten, before 17,000 people. "As a young child, he was fascinated by what mom and dad did at work," said his mother Claudia Marshall. "We didn't push him – this was what he wanted to do," she adds.
In the Mississauga Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Dmytro Gurkov and dance partner Celeste Bailey, recently won both the Closed Canadian Professional Smooth and Rhythm Championships, thus crowning them the Canadian 9 Dance Champions. They are also the current Arthur Murray World Professional Rhythm Champions. After dancing together for only six months, Dmytro and Celeste attended the Blackpool Dance Festival, the world's most prestigious ballroom dance competition, and won third place in Rhythm and placed in the top ten in the Smooth dance events. Dmytro owns Arthur Murray Dance Studios in both Mississauga and North York in Ontario, Canada.
Richmond's Arthur Murray Studio just opened this month, and it's owned and managed by Jumarcelon Castro and Ashley Kipps, who started their dance careers with Arthur Murray, starting as teachers, becoming managers and now proud owners of a studio of their own.
And then there's Marko Namen, age 16, who won the Pro-Am United States Championship in September. Mr. Namen trains at the Arthur Murray Studio in Jacksonville, Florida.
