Canadian specialists focus on helping advance patient care and research through collaboration with the ACHQC
CENTENNIAL, Colo., Jan. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative (ACHQC) is pleased to announce its continued international expansion as Canadian surgeons are now able to access ACHQC's robust clinical registry.
Canada's participation in ACHQC underscores its commitment to healthcare excellence and aligns with the ACHQC's dedication to improving surgical outcomes and enhancing the patient experience. Spearheaded by Megan Melland-Smith, MD, President of the Canadian Hernia Society, this collaboration will leverage the expertise of Canadian surgeons to contribute vital insights to the global understanding of hernia surgical outcomes.
The Canadian Hernia Society is a well-established non-profit organization with a keen executive committee and members at large who are interested in tracking hernia patient outcomes and improving hernia care. "Until now, Canadian hernia surgeons did not have access to a clinically focused, real-world registry, making it very challenging to uniformly track surgical outcomes or contribute to hernia literature," shared Dr. Melland-Smith. "This partnership with the ACHQC changes that. The Canadian Hernia Society will help establish use of the ACHQC registry nationwide, enrolling patients across all provinces."
North York General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario was the first Canadian center to enter patients into ACHQC's secure data registry. Broadening the impact of ACHQC participation, additional Canadian sites are anticipated to join in the coming months.
"This marks another significant milestone for our Collaborative, which now spans all the Americas", remarked Michael Rosen, MD, ACHQC Medical Director. "I'm particularly excited to see surgeon thought leaders from Canada and Brazil share their experiences at our upcoming 2025 Quality Improvement Summit in Denver. Together, we are helping shape the future of abdominal core health."
