Accelerated Innovations and MyMeter® Continue to Help US Cities Meet Energy Efficiency Ordinances
Accelerated Innovations, whose core product, MyMeter®, provides the complete online solution for millions of utility customers worldwide, announced today its partnership with CenterPoint Energy to enhance existing capabilities for ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Benchmarking within MyMeter, which facilitates and tracks progress toward building energy benchmarking strategies within the City of Minneapolis' Climate Action Plan.
SAINT PAUL, Minn., April 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "A growing number of CenterPoint Energy business customers are engaging in building energy benchmarking, and we wanted to provide a solution that would make this process easier. Through our partnership with Accelerated Innovations, we have built an online portal that is fast, free, and easy to use, allowing the customer to access information that will help them improve the energy efficiency and quality of their building," says Emma Ingebretsen, Sr. Energy Efficiency Program Administrator at CenterPoint Energy. CenterPoint Energy is Minnesota's largest natural gas utility, serving more than 860,000 residential and business customers in Minneapolis and 260 other communities in the state.
Minneapolis was one of the first cities to have established what is known as an Energy Benchmarking and Transparency ordinance for commercial buildings in 2015. New York and Boston were also early adopters. In 2019, Minneapolis added multifamily buildings to its commercial benchmarking ordinance. These policies are aimed at tracking commercial and multifamily building energy and water usage from one year to the next to identify the most efficient buildings as well as opportunities for improvement, and to determine progress towards climate and energy goals for large buildings.
"It's great that CenterPoint Energy and MyMeter are making it easier for the nearly 1,000 Minneapolis property owners to submit and track their energy data," says Kim W. Havey, Minneapolis Sustainability Director.
In the case of the Minneapolis ordinance, as is true of most cities adopting disclosure ordinances, buildings are required to disclose the 1 to 100 peer building ranking score provided through the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager platform managed as a joint initiative between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. MyMeter's ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager integration streamlines this process to make it easy for businesses to meet the requirements of this ordinance.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to assist CenterPoint Energy and AI's other utility partners in empowering their customers to improve building energy efficiency and support local policies that further climate action plans," explains Mark Brown, COO at Accelerated Innovations.
The partnership between CenterPoint Energy and MyMeter is a concrete example of how efficient and painless this process can be, when a utility and their customers have access to the right tools.
At Accelerated Innovations, we are helping utilities around the world offer something more to their customers and their employees: progress, savings, and innovation. Our hosted customer self-service platform does it all, integrates seamlessly and delivers an outstanding digital experience for residential, commercial users of water, gas and electricity.
