Accuenergy Designs New Rogowski Coil Integrator for Protection Relays
The RIK 1AR Protection Relay Integrator Kit provisions for Rogowski coils to be paired with protective relay systems with five user configurable current transformer ratios and wide sensing range.
TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Accuenergy (Canada) Inc., one of the leading global innovators for energy measurement instruments, has announced that the RIK-1AR Rogowski Integrator Kit is now available to order. Engineered specifically for integration with protection relays in electrical power systems, it challenges the traditional setup of this critical infrastructure.
Whereas most protection relay applications rely on heavy rigid-body current sensors, the RIK-1AR allows this equipment to take advantage of flexible, lightweight Rogowski coils for ease-of-installation around large or irregularly shaped conductors. Additionally, it features five, field-configurable CT ratios to accommodate a variety of use cases.
The RIK-1AR is the newest addition to Accuenergy's line of Rogowski Integrator Kits ("RIK") which delivers convenience of Rogowski coils to 3rd party devices that cannot normally interface with the unique output of the rope-like current sensors. In addition to flexibility, the RIK-1AR leverages other inherent Rogowski coil advantages including superior performance in electrically noisy (high EMI) environments, which are common around industrial equipment and processes. Further, unlike sensors with iron or ferrite cores, Rogowski coils feature an air core which does not saturate, even during high current conditions.
Often requested by customers, the five field-configurable current transformer ratios are a sought-after feature and give the integrator more versatility by permitting operators to utilize more of their existing assets while providing additional control and options over the configuration of their electrical power system, introducing further cost savings.
"Over the years, we have been committed to provisioning critical infrastructure with energy measurement instruments that make installations safe, easy, and configurable under uniquely challenging environments," says Howard Wang, Director of Business Development at Accuenergy. "Up until now, there has never been an option for using flexible CTs in protection relay applications. The RIK-1AR fills the important role of linking protection relays to the power system and, for the first time ever, permits flexible Rogowski coil sensors to be used in conjunction with protective relay equipment. This gives operators additional control over their integration with an easy-to-use solution."
Designed for substations or other industrial systems that require protection relays, the RIK-1AR is UL Listed and has been tested to meet strict, worldwide compliance standards. In addition, it meets protection class 5P20 (IEC 61869-2) requirements.
The RIK-1AR is suitable for use in all applications where protection relays are commonly found including critical infrastructure, utilities, industrial facilities, railways, commercial complexes, security systems, data centers, substations, and more.
RIK-1AR Features:
● Easy-to-install, plug-and-play integrator used with any protection relay, energy meter, or device with a 1A nominal current input
● Protection Class: 5P20 (IEC 61869-2)
● Wide current sensing range from 0.25A to 100,000A for broad compatibility
● Field-configurable CT ratios: 50A, 200A, 500A, 2000A, and 5000A
● Compatible with both 50Hz and 60Hz frequency systems
● Paired with a single rope-style Rogowski current sensor to easily fit tight spaces with 95% less weight than traditional relay class CTs (sold separately)
