NAGOYA, Japan, Oct. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today, Amvel launched a crowdfunding campaign for Verykal, the world's lightest automatic folding umbrella that is light enough to carry in a purse or everyday bag. It is available on the Kickstarter platform starting at $33 USD.
After the company Yoshihiro Tsujino, Minoru Sugiyama, and Tomoo Sugano worked for went bankrupt in 2016, the trio founded Amvel. Armed with over 55 years of combined experience in the umbrella industry, they set out to change a product whose design has been virtually untouched over the last century. In 2018, Amvel launched its first product, the Pentagon 72, which weighed in at 72 grams as the world's lightest umbrella. Next, the team was on a mission to build an umbrella that is a balance between lightweight and durable.
VERYKAL can be opened and closed at the touch of a button. At 162 grams it is ultra-lightweight (compared to most other automatic umbrellas that weigh 250-300g). The design can also withstand wind speeds of 12 miles per second without breaking and has been tested and proven by wind-resistance tests.
"The key to VERYKAL's strength is in its structure," said Tsujino. "Carbon fiber is used for the main part of the umbrella bone, which has a structure that bends in three steps. Carbon fiber is a high-tech material used in aircraft as a lightweight and durable material."
"We stand behind the quality of VERYKAL," continued Sugiyama.. "We're working with a long-established factory that has been manufacturing umbrellas for 48 years in Taiwan. We also have a five-stage inspection system to ensure quality control."
The umbrella canopy is made from 15 denier fabric, and is protected with Easy-Dry nanotech water-repellent coating. Easy-Dry is produced in an Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified factory, which is a worldwide certification system designed to eliminate the effects and damage to humans caused by harmful substances.
The company is passionate about the durability of the product because they view umbrella waste as a social problem. They bring their Japanese design sensibilities, which value long-lasting products that are high quality.
"Because umbrellas are difficult to disassemble and recycle, the majority of umbrellas end up in landfill. Some stats show that 25 Eiffel Towers could be built with the quantity that is thrown away annually," said Sugano.. "We designed VERYKAL to be durable enough to last many years of use, helping to redirect the millions of low-quality umbrellas that head to landfill each year."
The estimated delivery date of VERYKAL is December 2019. Media wishing to interview their personnel should contact PR agent, Rosemary Newton at [email protected].
