Keylogging Education and Warning Adopted by Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce to Inform Its Members of This Cyber Crime
Temecula, California (PRWEB) January 15, 2014 -- Keylogging is the act of placing a polymorphic code malware on one’s computer or mobile devices that captures the keystrokes as they are typed and sends that information to a the person or group that infected the computer. It is also virtually unstoppable by the AntiVirus Softwares on the market according to a recent article in the Huffington Post.
At anytime, user names, passwords, account numbers and pins can be stolen, sold and finances irreparably damaged. Anyone that uses a mobile device to do any banking or financial transactions and was keylogged, that information could be up for sale on the internet in mere minutes by Cyber Criminals around the world. Recent news events such as Target, Facebook, Twitter, and more recently Yahoo, have shown that hackers, known as keyloggers, are the #1 threat to our national security according to the FBI and Interpol. “In fact, many in the North County of San Diego recently had their account numbers, debit cards and pins duplicated, due to Keylogging,” according to Clark. To better understand how to protect our members, we felt it necessary to inform our members how keyloggers work.”
A keylogger is someone who records the keys struck on a keyboard, whether it is on a mobile device or computer. This is done covertly so that the user is unaware that their actions are being monitored in real time or just being recorded. So, why are mobile devices at a higher risk than computers? Because a mobile device is already keylogged. How? Due to 911, the Federal Government passed a law that allows it to track all cell phones and any tablets that have GPS capability. They can see and track everything you do on your mobile device. In addition, every time one downloads an app, one is in effect, giving permission for the app creator to Keylog that device. Criminals are taking advantage of this weakness and there are currently little defenses against them for mobile devices. Everyone and every business is at risk, but the Medical community and bookkeepers are especially vulnerable because of the volume of confidential information they keep. Current anti-virus and spyware software are ineffective in finding this invisible enemy as noted above in the Huffington Post article.
However, Strike Force Technologies is the company who invented real time anti-keylogging encryption, and they actually own the patent to Keystroke Encryption, U.S. Patent Office No. 8,566,608. They also own several additional patents for surrounding security technologies. Strike Force having already developed keyboard encryption for computers recently announced that, in the 1st Quarter of 2014, they will release APPs for both apple users as well as Android thru their APP Stores. Those that have the computer licensing will be able to add the APPs as part of their protection package. To see just how imminent a threat this is, and to further understand how this effects and impacts your life, watch the videos in the links below. “In a future article in the Temecula Chamber news Magazine we will explain in further detail how keyloggers get on your system, how fast they work and what they do with your information. Also, we will bring to your attention another threat called click-jacking,” said Clark.
