TYSONS, Va., June 3, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Aquanta Inc. announced today that it has partnered with Saint John Energy (Saint John, N.B.) to bring its market-leading Aquanta Smart Water Heater Controller to Saint John Energy customers. This project is supported by Natural Resources Canada, and will play a key role in carrying out Saint John Energy's mission to provide affordable, reliable, and innovative solutions to their customers.
It is another step in Saint John Energy's vision to create the Utility of the Future with renewable energy, smart products for consumers and an advanced smart grid powered by artificial intelligence.
Water heater load control represents a unique opportunity to Saint John Energy, as it owns a fleet of over 22,000 rental water heaters that can be equipped for grid integration. "This project is an important piece of our Utility of the Future vision that brings affordable and clean energy to Saint John," noted Ingrid Harris, Manager of Consumer Products at Saint John Energy. "We know that heating water can account for 20 percent of a homeowner's energy bill. We chose Aquanta because its products have features that will engage and bring value to our customers, and they have a proven track record with utilities."
One of the advantages of this partnership is that it will help Saint John Energy smooth peaks in energy demand. Peak demand energy generation can double carbon emissions for its wholesale electricity supplier compared to off-peak, and it is costly – with peak demand charges consuming nearly a third of the utility's energy purchasing budget.
Saint John Energy began rolling out Aquanta smart water heater controllers last month, and is using Aquanta's new cellular version for the project.
