NEW YORK, March 30, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Betty Hunley Carlyon has completed her book "Curly Hair & Other Stories": a warm and inviting work in which the author shares stories filled with laughs, insights, perspectives, understandings, information, and even some tears—the good kind. They are heartfelt, written with love and gratitude.
Betty Hunley Carlyon was born on October 20, 1926, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, the daughter of a railroad worker and a schoolteacher. Joined by a brother, Charles Harrington Hunley, in 1932, she was raised in Nebraska and graduated from Falls City High School in 1944. Marrying Donald James Carlyon in 1946, she, with her husband, moved to Michigan in 1960 with five children. Donald James Carlyon eventually became president of Delta College, serving the Great Lakes Bay Region. Betty Hunley Carlyon served in the role of first lady of the college from 1964 until his retirement in 1993, over the years hosting thousands of faculty members, staff, students, family, friends, and visitors at the couple's home. She passed away on June 27, 2018.
Author Betty Hunley Carlyon discusses her work, writing, "Several years ago, on The Today Show, during a series on aging, the woman who was being interviewed stressed the importance for senior citizens to record their family histories to be passed on to their children and grandchildren. She said it didn't really matter how the information was saved—longhand, computer, video, or even drawings. Plus, there didn't have to be any rhyme or reason. The main thing was to begin and the format would tend to fall into place. She was so convincing that I popped up and ran to the computer, feeling if I didn't begin my life story immediately, I would be doing my family a disservice, depriving them of all this interesting and invaluable information. Well, as so often happens, that enthusiasm lasted only about so long—I think I wrote a paragraph or two—and the rest of the story was to come later, when I had more time."
Published by Page Publishing, Betty Hunley Carlyon's heartwarming work serves as a beautiful testament to the author, who was a prolific writer and a gracious and consummate hostess.
