SOUTHAMPTON, England, Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Author Pens Fantasy Fiction Introducing the God Desperately Searching for Followers
Thought-provoking and written in a tongue-in-cheek style, 'In the Image of Man' considers what a god would be like starting out in modern Slough. Could they exist, or just fade away? Beautifully insightful, the book is laced with eloquently crafted lines that are guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of its readers. It's also thought-provoking and gripping, set within a fantasy fiction setting. It is life in a nutshell looking at the complexities of belief and non-belief from an innocents' perspective. This is religious fiction with an edge. Far from serious, it relates to a small and insignificant being who is searching for more and the story invites contemplation – What would a god formed in the image of Man be like?
Long states: I wanted to take an evocative subject and turn it on its head. What if a god were powerless and needed people to believe in them just to exist? Would learning from his believers make for a very different deity?
The concept is that an age-old but naïve god appears. Small and powerless, it lacks the energy to create flashy miracles and so cannot interest followers. Using modern day technology, this god, taking the name Bob, tries to gain believers and uses its last sparks of energy to communicate. It is a clever concept. Bob must unravel the complexities of the human condition and learn to navigate the world of technology just to be able to connect with would-be followers. There is a sense of fear and frustration along with the desire to do the right thing.
Long states: The strongest emotions are fear and love and in order to exist, Bob must protect and help those that give the belief that sustains him. This is not an all powerful being that dictates to people but a personal and fallible being that works with those that choose to believe… all four of them. Of course, it is also a look at the nature of humans, their broken relationships and what happens when a 56,000 ton asteroid barges into the middle of this.
Despite the satire that runs through the story, the book includes very real emotions - love, friendship and loyalty and these are traits that everyone can comprehend. There is rising tension as the story progresses when immense danger threatens all of humanity. The question is whether a small god can rise to the occasion? It is written with confidence and uses humanistic traits to wrap the fundamentals of the story so to reach a wide audience.
This is religious fiction with a slice of humour. Its real strength is its ability to entertain. It is amusing and the story builds nicely. Although fantasy fiction, this book includes subjects that affect modern day life and, provides a compelling fictional representation of not just humanity's need to believe in something but a god's need to be believed in.
