Banjos Direct champions native American bison leather banjo straps
Norwich, Norfolk, UK (PRWEB UK) 25 July 2013 -- British specialist banjo retailer Banjos Direct has announced that it is now stocking the unique Lakota Leathers range of banjo straps, handmade by craftspeople from the Lakota Sioux nation in South Dakota, USA.
Each Lakota strap is made on the Pine Ridge Lakota Sioux Indian Reservation, helping to support the economy of Pine Ridge County, which has the undesirable distinction of being the poorest county in the entire United States.
Banjos Direct managing director Simon Middleton said: "The purchase of any Lakota Leathers strap helps provide income for people on the reservation. A genuine 'cottage' industry, Lakota Leathers straps are assembled in living rooms and on kitchen tables of the people who make these wonderful straps."
Lakota use only native leathers which have been used by the indigenous people for thousands of years. Bison (American buffalo) and Elk are the leathers of choice, both being extremely supple to provide for unsurpassed comfort no matter what instrument you play.
The bison hide straps are available in four colours and are available for guitar, banjo, resonator guitar, and mandolin. Hand braided Elk hide straps are also available for mandolin and available in a multitude of color choices.
All Lakota Leathers straps are 100% guaranteed to be the soft, strong, and comfortable.
Lakota Leathers was founded in 2008 by Kenny Bohling of Sevierville TN. It all started after Bohling heard Marty Stuart's song "Three Chiefs" on his local radio station WDVX, in Knoxville TN.
The song tells the story of three of the great Lakota Sioux Chiefs of the past. The song inspired Kenny to make his first trip to South Dakota with a load of used blankets from local motels to help the impoverished people of the Pine Ridge Indian reservation near Rapid City South Dakota.
After seeing first hand the poverty of the reservation, Kenny wanted to do more to help. Realizing that he had owned an American Bison hide banjo strap for over 25 years, Kenny knew that the Lakota people could make these fine straps.
