BLOWING ROCK, N.C., Oct. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alair Homes, the largest and fastest growing construction franchise in North America recently awarded Jeff Smith of JS Construction the rights to become Alair Homes High Country. Smith is known throughout Blowing Rock and the surrounding communities of Ashe, Watauga and Avery counties for his craftsmanship, attention to detail, and for his engaging personality. "Alair is particularly selective of the builders chosen to join our team," said Dave Young, Regional Partner for Alair in the Carolinas. "You need to be an existing, highly successful contractor to even be considered by Alair, but it's the people behind the business that really capture our interest." Young got to experience Smith's impact on his community first hand. "I was in Blowing Rock doing due diligence on Jeff's background and project work when we had a past client flag us down on the road to invite us in," said Young. "That tells you a lot about someone's character and dedication to their clients."
Smith was attracted to the Blue Ridge Mountains years before he launched his construction business. Having moved often as a youth, Smith felt a pull to the High Country in search of a community where he could develop deep roots and one day raise a family. "These mountains just felt like home," said Smith. "I came here ready to work hard and was amazed to find a core group of men and women willing to offer a helping hand to a motivated young man. Strong relationships were forged and the mentorship received has been the key to my success."
After earning a degree in Construction Management from Appalachian State University, Smith assembled a team and got to work as JS Construction in 2006. Shortly thereafter in 2008 the housing market along with the economy fell into a deep recession. "All I knew to do was to keep fighting," Smith stated. "Like many of the builders who survived the last decade, I was immediately faced with the tough questions of how do I pay my staff? How do I keep my team together? How do I continue to support my family? I decided to peel back the layers of fear and began to look at what truly defined us. Uncompromising dedication to quality, transparency with our clients, honesty and grit were what united my team. With that mindset, we remained profitable, never missed a day of work, and we continued to support our families throughout those turbulent years.'"
The results of Smith and his team's hard work have been raving fans, long lasting relationships, and magazine worthy projects complementing the local, unique landscape.
Yet because of this success, it wasn't exactly love at first sight for Smith. "When Alair first contacted me, I was extremely skeptical," Smith recalled. "My business was strong and we were preparing for a record year and poised for growth. I felt certain this was simply another company offering their routine sales pitch for something I did not need. We were already a growing company. I did not need Alair to fix problems that didn't exist and I had no desire to be a franchise builder. However, something about them seemed different so I continued to listen.
"I caught a glimpse of the core value structure that aligned with what had kept us alive during the recession. I became intrigued, yet in my mind I knew there was no way this could possibly be the good guys finally uniting to fix an industry that has been broken for years. I was now determined and made it my mission to unravel Alair in search of the typical ego and greed motivational factors so prevalent in our culture today. After more than 6 months of mutual vetting and due diligence, I found the answers I was looking for and I admit that I was wrong about them. This group of elite builders has come together for reasons that far surpass financial reward. I am honored to now wear the Alair brand and share in the commitment to excellence that I have witnessed.
"Autumn is a special time in the High Country. Aside from the breath taking splendor of the changing color, it is a time when families and visitors can be seen throughout the community participating in the various annual festivals and events including the Valle Country Fair, the Woolly Worm festival, Tweetsie Railroad Ghost train and many other local activities. Locally grown pumpkins, apples and all of the sights and smells that are reminiscent of a time long forgotten...a time when the strong bonds of family and community were understood to be primary ingredients that led to strength and success.
"Nothing in the world is more important to me than family. My wife Jamie and I had to be absolutely sure this move of transforming the business we put years of blood sweat and tears in would be the right decision for us and our two young sons. What we discovered was that every single person we interacted with, family was the core reason they decided to put their own futures in Alair. They are authentic and humble and this resonates deeply for Jamie and me. It also gives me great confidence that the amazing people who live in the North Carolina High Country area will now have even more certainty and protection for their own families when they engage with us for their dream home projects.
"This real sense of community, family and friendship were the very reasons why I decided to leave my island of JS Construction and join the Alair family. We are excited to bring the superior value of this special collaborative approach to all of our clients here in the High Country and I look forward to providing an experience that can only be described as Living Better. And in celebration of autumn in the High Country, we could not be more proud to share this announcement," Smith concluded.
Alair Homes High Country is now the seventh Alair office to have opened recently in the Carolinas as the company continues to expand rapidly in the Southeast. "Top builders are choosing to join us as they recognize what they can achieve for their clients and their families by having the power and resources of our network poured into them. We have a lot of confidence in Jeff and how committed he is to helping other people live better. This is a man dedicated to other people's success and his enthusiasm is infectious," Young added. "I won't at all be surprised when we get flagged down again by another happy client turned close friend."
