BOSTON , June 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum has launched a special Summer of Play initiative that will help families rediscover the joy and wonder of play that was so curtailed during the last year due to pandemic related restrictions.
"The Summer of Play initiative is meant to emphasize the importance of play for the healthy development of children," said Carole Charnow, President and CEO of the Museum. "Children's mental and physical health took a step back during the past year as families coped with the many disruptions to work, school, childcare, and requirements to safely distance. For children, the need to explore, discover, be physically active, and make friends is critical. As a major destination and resource for children and families, we wanted to make a statement this summer that we are here for families and that play is a prescription for learning, health, and happiness."
The Museum will offer a full calendar of activities throughout the summer that will incorporate hands-on making, creating, exploring, and playing both inside and outside the Museum. Science, art, music, and special family events together with fun-filled exhibits, including the new Fantastic Forts exhibit, the redesigned PlaySpace, and a new turtle tank will make a visit to the Museum memorable.
Summer of Play Highlights include:
- Paint Extravaganza, July 21–August 1
- Cardboard-Palooza, August 11–August 22
- Family Carnival, July 30 from 6:00-9:00pm
- Hands-on creating and making (Shadow Puppets, Stamp-making, and Spider Web)
- Outdoor programs under the tent (Make Mini Golf, Soundscapes, Mini River)
- Special STEAM and Art Lab activities
The Museum has created a guide to the Summer of Play that includes a journal that will allow kids to personalize it and write about their favorite parts of the summer. This keepsake will be a great memory maker and reminder of the fun summer kids had both at the Museum, at home, or on vacation. The guide/journal can be picked up at the information desk at the Museum or downloaded here. The full calendar of events can also be found at http://www.BostonChildrensMuseum.org/SummerofPlay.
The Museum is also offering the Summer of Play: At Home! for those who may not be able to visit the Museum. Families can enjoy the giant library of summer activities with new ideas being added each week!
The Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays in two time slots 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30-4:30pm. Admission is only by advance registration and ticketing. All visitors, including members, are required to reserve an advance ticket online at https://www.bostonchildrensmuseum.org/ticketing.
Boston Children's Museum continues to maintain the highest standards for ensuring a safe and playful experience for staff and visitors.
