HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Actor Bradley James, a rumored candidate for the next James Bond, has played an English king (Merlin), an Italian aristocrat (Medici), a vampire (Underworld) and the Antichrist (Damien). Now, on Nov 11th, on Veterans and Remembrance Day, fans can see him play real-life war hero Felix Sparks in Netflix's moving new limited series "The Liberator." "The Liberator" is the first project ever to be produced using Trioscope, the new ground-breaking hybrid animation that marries human performance with animated environments to produce a first of its kind viewing experience filled with powerful human emotion and breathtaking cinematic visuals. In "The Liberator's" case, producers at A & E Studios chose it because it allowed filmmakers to tackle powerful dramatic stories with sweeping scale all on a cost-effective budget.
James was a fan of the script, written by show creator and EP Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive), from the start. "It was a fantastic adaptation of the compelling book, The Liberator, from author Alex Kershaw, and hard to put down." James' character, Commander Felix "Shotgun" Sparks, led the members of the 157th Infantry Battalion, an integrated group of white cowboys, Mexican-Americans and Native soldiers. They fought for 500 days, making their way from Italy to France to the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp, through some of the most grueling battles of the war. The ragtag group of men, who were not permitted in many restaurants and bars back home because of their race, not only coalesced into a fighting force to be reckoned with, but became one of the most decorated American combat units of World War II.
"The Liberator characters are based on real men, many of whom did not survive the war. There was a great responsibility in playing them and we felt truly honored in doing so," says James.
Of the cast, which includes Martin Sensmeier (The Magnificent 7, Westworld) playing a Native soldier, and Jose Miguel Vasquez (The Walking Dead, Cobra Kai) playing a Mexican-American comrade-in-arms, James describes the experience: "Playing an intense brotherhood of soldiers resulted in growing a special bond that isn't always a given on set."
