NEW YORK, April 22, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Firriato is the first winery in Europe to accomplish all the conditions necessary to achieve and certify ZERO point greenhouse gas emissions, after following a challenging certification process. Accomplishment of this pioneering goal opens up prospects for the entire viticultural and winemaking sector, thanks to the neutrality protocol which provides for specifications on the quantification, reduction and compensation of emissions of residual gasses (including CO2). Firriato is setting the standard for a production model based on the highest values of environmental sustainability. "It is a result that puts us at the forefront - explains Federico Lombardo of Monte Iato, COO of the company - and that sets the bar for those of us who want to demonstrate with tangible actions a commitment to the environment ".
Firriato has been supporting active environmental policies for over a decade, as evidenced by precise choices and by adherence to specific ISO protocols, allowing the winery to obtain certifications attesting to its concrete results. It is with a sense of responsibility and a firm will to respond to topical issues that affect the planet, from global warming to climate change, and from the reduction of the biosphere to the risk of thinning biodiversity, that Firriato conducts its winemaking operation. This methodology, after several intermediate steps, has today expanded to encompass the entire Firriato brand production across the many different estates and terroirs in which the company is now established. The agronomic management of vineyard activities and olive groves, and spontaneous grassing have, to an even greater extent, mitigated pollution, as well as greenhouse and CO2 emissions.
The Carbon Neutral certification was awarded by DNV GL, one of the most prestigious accredited registrar and classification societies in the world, headquartered in Høvik, Norway and chosen as a partner by the Di Gaetano family, owner of Firriato, to complete the process. Combined with certified carbon credits, the coveted Zero Emissions point was ultimately achieved, acquired with the support of specific environmental protection activities in foreign emerging economies, resulting in reforestation projects in tropical areas and with the production of energy from renewable sources.
