Michael L. Hermes, CFA, CFP of HORAN was selected for educating individuals on Social Security income maximization
CINCINNATI, April 27, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Social Security Association in Cincinnati has selected Michael L. Hermes, CFA, CFP Vice President, Wealth Advisor at HORAN Wealth Management of Cincinnati, an SEC Registered Investment Advisor, as its National Social Security Advisor (NSSA) of the Year.
The award was announced by Marc Kiner, board member of the National Social Security Association. Kiner is partner at Premier Social Security Consulting of Cincinnati, which teaches the NSSA Social Security education courses to advisors across the nation.
"Michael has a breadth and depth of knowledge when it comes to Social Security, and he's passionate about holistic financial planning—with Social Security guidance as a key part of that picture," said Kiner. More than 1600 individuals from Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, and across the nation have received Social Security education by HORAN and Michael in the past two years, according to HORAN.
"This Social Security education has been offered to employers and clients by HORAN and Michael in an innovative, dynamic, online format. We're pleased to give this award to an advisor who is working tirelessly to educate workers and soon-to-be retirees about how they can find financial wellness and maximize their Social Security income."
The NSSA program is the nation's first Social Security education certificate program. The NSSA Advisor certificate is awarded to advisors who take the NSSA course and pass an assessment after going through the program.
Hermes has helped families and individuals in pursuit of achieving their financial goals for more than 10 years. His holistic financial planning approach encompasses investment, insurance, estate, tax, and education planning. His main areas of expertise are in Social Security and investment management. "When it comes to holistic financial planning, I strive to provide every client with peace of mind about their unique and specific situation," explained Hermes.
Since 1948, HORAN has served as a trusted advisor offering employee benefits consulting, retirement planning, wealth management, and life insurance for estate and business planning. HORAN offers employee benefits solutions to more than 600 employers and its health and life insurance operations cover more than 300,000 individuals. HORAN has a strong regional presence with a national footprint. With offices in Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio; and Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky HORAN serves both corporate and individual clients in 48 states.
Hermes said the NSSA Advisor of the Year award reinforces HORAN's commitment to equipping clients to create a better quality of life for their families and workers. "It's an honor to be recognized as the National Social Security Advisor of the year. The NSSA program has given me foundational knowledge that not only separates my practice from the field, but it has helped to build deeper, more impactful relationships with my clients," added Hermes.
Hermes is deeply engaged with his local community as a Dragonfly Foundation advocate; Talbert House Ambassador Board member; and a graduate of the United Way Board Orientation Leadership Development (BOLD) program. Beyond Social Security workshops, he also regularly educates clients, partners, and community members on other financial wellness topics including retirement readiness and investment management.
More than 2,500 advisors have been awarded the National Social Security Advisor certificate since 2013, according to Premier partner Jim Blair, a 35-year veteran of the Social Security Administration.
"Since Social Security is increasingly complex when it comes to single individuals, surviving spouses, divorced individuals, married couples, and married couples with large age differences—among many other scenarios—the NSSA program gives advisors timely education so they can help clients make optimal claiming decisions," explained Blair.
"Advisors are getting more questions than ever, on everything from cost-of-living adjustments to pension-related questions, to spousal benefits, and they need to be able to help clients successfully calculate and navigate all these situational factors. The best decision on when and how to claim goes back to these unique situations each person has, which we call Situational Social Security. With the nation's estimated 73 million baby boomers, this is more important than ever," added Blair.
