NEW YORK, May 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Children's author Amber L. Spradlin and four of her colleagues trained in American Sign Language, recently volunteered their narration skills in support of #SaveWithStories, a funding initiative launched by actors Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams to benefit Save the Children and Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry. This new fund ensures that children have access to learning and the nutrition they need while they are out of school due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Ms. Spradlin, author of the middle grade action hero series THUMPERINO SUPERBUNNY and the storybook collection A COW NAMED COW, lent support to this campaign by making a recorded video reading of her book Cow & The Magic Shoes and posted it to social media as a way to entertain and educate children during this difficult time for families while also raising charitable donations for #SaveWithStories. Spradlin's recording also included American Sign Language narration. "I was moved by the gift reading can bring to a child's life during these very scary times and the amazing power of the #SaveWithStories campaign. I began watching authors, celebrities, and generous citizens doing readings on social media and I was struck that deaf and hearing impaired children didn't have access to quite the same storytelling experience. This prompted me to reach out to my friend Angela Langone from New York City's Lexington School for the Deaf to ask if she could help gather some volunteers to serve as American Sign Language storytelling liaisons for a reading of Cow & The Magic Shoes for #SaveWithStories," Spradlin explained. "I hope that together we can bring joy to children and bring funding support for this important initiative."
According to Save The Children and No Kid Hungry:
"Thirty million children rely on school for food. Responding to the needs of kids during these school closures, Save the Children US and No Kid Hungry have a new fund #SAVEWITHSTORIES to support food banks, and mobile meal trucks, and community feeding programs with funds to do what they do best—and also—with educational toys, books, and worksheets to make sure brains are full, as well as bellies. If you can manage a one-time gift of $10, please text SAVE to 20222. If another amount would work better for you, please visit our website—http://ow.ly/gxuV30qq1nf. There is no maximum and there is no minimum—together we will rise and together we can help."
