CP Toys Implements New "Green Initiative"
Grandview, MO (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- In a recent drive to become more eco-sensitive, CP Toys, a division of US Toy Company, has made significant changes to its operations.
In order to conserve energy and leave a smaller carbon footprint, CP Toys has explored ideas that span across the entire operation. At first, the company started small with projects like recycling plastic and paper in the office, and a program to recycle cardboard boxes in the warehouse. Since inception, approximately 6,000 lbs of cardboard is recycled weekly during the non-peak season, which translates to 432,000 lbs of cardboard recycled annually. From there, the focus shifted to larger projects like converting printed reports to a digital medium, and selecting environmentally conscience partners who use only natural cleaning products instead of man-made chemicals. Next, CP Toys switched all outbound customer packages to 100% recycled cardboard material. That equates to shipping out 467,516 recycled boxes since being implemented back in 2012.
More recently, the company decided to implement larger initiatives to conserve energy. The first step was virtualizing servers and desktops to decrease the amount of power used for electrical, heating, and cooling within the data center at the corporate office. Next, CP Toys converted the 750,000 square foot warehouse lighting over to T5 energy efficient bulbs with motion sensors. This was a huge step to ensuring energy was being used efficiently, and has reduced the kilowatt hours used by over 30% annually.
The last major undertaking, completed this month, was installing 261 solar panels on the warehouse roof. Harnessing energy sources like solar power was the logic path to continue reducing CP Toys’s carbon footprint, especially in light of all the positive research and findings on solar energy. Solar energy has been proven to slow down global warming, reduce air pollution, provide a reliable energy source, and on top of all that create more jobs for the economy. The installation of these solar panels is projected to reduce the amount of kilowatts used annually by 733,847, which is the equivalent of taking 61 cars off the road, recycling 26.2 tons of waste, and saving 774 barrels of oil.
As our world turns, there is an ever-growing responsibility to leave the planet in good shape for future generations. CP Toys co-CEO Seth Freiden said, "CP Toys is a 3rd generation family owned company that sells both educational and novelty toys for children. Ultimately, the importance of lessening the environmental footprint is the positive impact it will have on future generations." As many companies are moving towards a more eco-friendly “green” initiatives, CP Toys is honored to be leading the way in this movement.
