My dad had come home from work to rush me to the hospital. Our family doctor was a surgeon. Only the Lord knows what would have happened if Dr. Ackerman wasn't on duty that day. He took me right into the surgical room and opened me up with an incision next to my belly button. He didn't know what was wrong with me, but he knew he had to operate soon, or I would die. My pain was in my stomach area, not radiating from my right side as is common with appendicitis.
After I was opened up, he could see that my appendix was in the wrong place. It was upside down on top of my liver in the center of my body. Hence, the pain was in the center of my body. Dr. Ackerman removed the appendix and said, 'If you'd have waited any longer, you would have died.'"
