HUNTINGTON, W.Va., Feb. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- DARCO International, a global leader in foot and ankle care, is thrilled to announce a dynamic new partnership with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). This 10-week collaboration is spearheaded by SCADpro—the university's renowned innovation studio—and will bring fresh, forward-thinking design solutions to DARCO's soon-to-be-released footwear product, set to transform the wound care market. By blending style, comfort, and healing, this collaboration aims to create a shoe that not only enhances patient recovery but also restores confidence and dignity.
"DARCO International is honored to be partnering with SCADpro on this very important project," said Steve Gulick, President and CEO of DARCO International. "Our vision is to develop a great looking shoe that is as stylish on the outside as it is healthy on the inside. We want to help our customers regain a sense of normalcy, so they don't have to feel defined by their condition."
SCADpro is the Savannah College of Art and Design's collaborative innovation studio that generates business solutions for the world's most influential brands. SCADpro is recognized as the preeminent university partner in higher education and among design agencies worldwide. Unlike other agencies and university programs, SCADpro invites clients to engage in every step of the ideation and creative process and to work directly with student designers, professors, and alumni focused on clients' desired outcomes.
"This transformative collaboration with DARCO International brings together 16 talented students across SCAD's dynamic degree programs including Accessory Design, Fashion, Fibers, Illustration, and Industrial Design," said Jesús Rojas Ache, SCAD vice-president of industry partnerships. "This partnership embodies the definition of SCADpro's mission - to drive meaningful innovation and prepare the next generation of designers for impactful careers."
Now celebrating 40 years of innovation, DARCO International was founded in 1985 in West Virginia by practicing podiatrist Dr. H. Darrel Darby. The company takes a holistic, customer-first approach, overseeing every stage of product development from design to distribution. Their global teams of in-house engineers, regulatory professionals, and customer care specialists have allowed DARCO to remain uniquely positioned to anticipate and respond to the evolving demands of the global foot and ankle community. DARCO's three core product lines focus on diabetic foot and wound care, trauma and surgical recovery, and physical therapy. The SCADpro project will be nestled under DARCO's diabetic foot and wound care line, with the newly designed footwear estimated to launch in early 2026.
"We hope this collaboration with SCADpro can fuel these bright young minds at SCAD to make a real and positive impact on those in their communities and their everyday lives," said Gulick. "We're excited to work with them to bring form and function together for the benefit of our customers."
