St. Mary of the Assumption Church's Choir sang holiday songs as Santa Claus descended through the glass elevator into the courtyard to do the tree lighting honors. As Santa gave a hearty belly laugh and raised his gloved hand, the tree lit up and snow began to fall.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Lompoc General Manager Golda Mae Escalante said staff went through several dry runs to get things just right. "We wanted to capture some magic for guests but also for our staff who really put their hearts into making this happen. Most of the decorations were hand-painted, made from scratch and artistically designed by our team members. My favorite was the NASA space helmet!" Escalante said.
Hannah Ramones, 11, of Santa Maria, had a blast gathering the snow and tossing it at friends. "It was cool. I like everything, especially the Christmas Tree with the sun and the planets and the huge rocket with smoke ready to lift off, the Santa Claus with candy canes. I enjoyed seeing the snow! I can't wait to see their theme for next year!" Hannah said.
Jessica Jose, Director of Sales for the hotel, said that the turnout was great and accompanied by perfect weather for holiday fun. Prior to even setting up the Christmas tree, she saw comments on travel sites from people looking forward to the event. "We have so many long-term stay guests here who are really like family. They were impressed with the décor and enjoyed the event." she said.
The event also marks the 11th year Embassy Suites by Hilton Lompoc has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in participating in the Toys for Tots Drive. Event guests were encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate. The hotel collected hundreds of donations, marking another successful year in the partnership.
