Equiti Games Wins F50 Founder World Championship Global Startup Competition, Earning $2M in Investment
Founder World, the largest community conference hosted by F50, Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs, and Blockchain Founder Clubs, selected Equiti Games as Grand Prize Winner for the Championship
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Equiti Games, a blockchain-powered distribution and licensing network that is creating a secondary market for digital games, was declared the champion at the Founder World 2018: Blockchain Impact hosted by F50, SVE, Blockchain Founder Club, and US China Blockchain Association. The finalists for the Global Startup Competition consisted of 20 startups competing from the United States, Canada and China. Equiti Games' clinched the $2M grand prize for its revolutionary licensing model that leverages blockchain smart contracts to create a new type of secondary market that integrates with existing digital distribution platforms.
"The judges were impressed by the quality of the blockchain startups that presented, but it was Equiti Games' potential to quickly scale and build the first interactive digital media secondary market that took first place," said Sergey Paramonov, Investor at F50 and Judge at Founders World. "Tony had a particularly impressive presentation, explaining the opportunity to build the first digital games secondary market which blockchain and smart contracts are uniquely positioned to do. We're excited to work with Tony and his team further as they go to market with their platform."
Over the course of the two-day conference, held on September 7-8 in San Francisco, thousands of founders, developers, community leaders, investors and aspiring entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley and around the globe gathered together to engage with industry experts, network with potential partners and see groundbreaking new companies. The Global Startup Competition consisted of 20 impact-driven startups. Each team delivered a presentation to a group of expert judges from professional VCs, angels, media, and experts.
"We are excited that the F50 judges saw the potential of our platform and the greenfield opportunities in the gaming market," said Tony Caputo, CEO and Founder, Equiti Games. "When you download a PC game today you're not buying a digital asset, but are in effect only leasing a game, as current licensing models force gamers to trade away their rights for convenience. Blockchain allows us to create tangible digital assets that gamers can see and own, like when we buy a physical game in a store: it's no longer just a string of characters in a company's database."
Equiti Games' open digital game distribution and resale network is designed to serve game developers, publishers, and users. Its network and API for the first time creates a true secondary market for digital games through a blockchain-powered licensing network that enables developers to configure their sales and marketing strategies according to the resale value of their product on an open market. GameStop, the dominant reseller of physical games, earned $2.15 billion from the sale of used physical games in 2017, but according to Statista, 79% of all games sold in 2017 were digital, highlighting the burgeoning opportunity for a digital games secondary market opportunity.
