The winners were announced in a virtual ceremony on Oct. 6 at the Exabeam Spotlight21 annual user conference.

We are tripling down on our investments to ensure our customers are delivered exceptional support, enabling them to be as successful as possible while protecting their organizations using Exabeam Fusion SIEM and Exabeam Fusion XDR. Thank you to every security pro and team who entered the awards this year––you set the bar high and showcased true excellence across categories."
Here's a list of the 2021 Exabeam Cybersecurity Excellence Awards categories and winners:
SecOps Vanguards Award: This award goes to a stand-out team that is at the forefront of strategy, technology, and implementation. It recognizes the team that has gone above and beyond basic security best practices to fortify their organization's defenses in outstanding ways.
Winner: Rakuten. This team champions next-gen capabilities, spurring other business units to look into using similar technology; and anecdotally notes that they've reduced their time-to-respond to incidents by up to 50 percent.
CISO Innovator Award: This award goes to a CISO who excels as both a security and business leader. Through business-wide partnerships and cybersecurity education, this individual continues to innovate year over year to lead their organization's cybersecurity operations and improve their security posture.
Winner: Jefferey Schilling, global CISO at Teleperformance. Schilling is an exemplary innovator committed to bringing in new technologies and replacing legacy tech that is no longer viable. One of his first major initiatives was to provide unified security visibility and set up a global SOC that included a keen focus on insider threats.
SOC Warrior Award: This award goes to an outstanding security engineer or security analyst on the front lines of defense at their organization who contributes above and beyond each and every day.
Winner: Dave McClennon, global SOC manager at Willis Towers Watson. According to his peers, McClennon "shows an expert understanding of incident response and is a true SOC Warrior." Current and former colleagues consider him a generous and thoughtful leader with a passion for learning and mentoring others as well.
Community Leadership Award: This award honors an Exabeam Community member who goes out of their way to engage with the community to share wisdom and advice, answer questions, and serve as a helpful and supportive resource to peers time and time again.
Winner: Nischal Challagulla. A leading cybersecurity engineer, Nischal has won the Exabeam monthly community engagement award several times and is one of the most interactive and helpful members in the Community. Many community members continue to benefit from Nischal's continuous generosity sharing his knowledge.
In honor of the late Michael "Mick" Jenkins, an Exabeam friend and impactful cybersecurity leader, the company has created the following new award category this year:
The Mick Jenkins Leadership Award: In memory of Mick, this aptly-named award recognizes the contributions of cybersecurity leaders who share their experience beyond the perimeter of the business. These leaders actively educate others through published work, teaching, and volunteering their time, ultimately impacting cybersecurity, and humanity, on a global scale.
2021 Winner: The winner of The Mick Jenkins Leadership Award is Chris Ard. Prior to his role as CISO at Newmont, Ard spent 20 years at Microsoft in various security roles that included forensic training, incident response, and proactive security deliveries. He helped build and define the initial customer-facing incident response practice, allowing him to assist Fortune 500 companies and smaller organizations as they dealt with significant breaches, including many that were disclosed publicly. Chris is a regular guest on thought leadership forums, where he shares his experience and expertise with the community freely.
