GREELEY AND FORT MORGAN, Colo., Nov. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- FMS Bank, the community bank that invests in what matters most to the communities of Northern Colorado, announced today that James Smith will succeed John Sneed as CEO once he retires on December 31, 2020. Over the past several years, Sneed and FMS Bank have been working on this management succession plan to ensure a continued commitment to community banking in Northern Colorado.
John Sneed joined FMS Bank (formerly Fort Morgan State Bank) as Executive Vice President in 1997. He subsequently assumed the role of President and CEO in March of 2004, followed by Board Chair in 2006. An active member of and advocate for the Fort Morgan community, Sneed has always prioritized saying "yes" when it comes to financing local businesses. As a result, FMS Bank has grown from $32 Million in assets at the beginning of Sneed's tenure to more than $235 Million in assets today.
"Only when the community thrives do we succeed," said John Sneed, CEO, FMS Bank. "Being part of FMS Bank has been a privilege because everyone truly cares. We all care deeply about what happens to the individuals and businesses in the communities we serve, which is why we have been thoughtful in proactively planning for the future of the bank."
Sneed recruited James Smith as his successor in early 2019, when he assumed the role of President and COO. Smith, having previously been CEO of Citizens Bank of Pagosa Springs, has also held C-suite roles at two other community banks. Thus far in his time with FMS, he has helped guide the bank through a number of transitions while laying the foundation for digital transformation, service enhancement, and continued growth. Smith assumes the role of CEO effective January 1, 2021.
"I am honored to take on this new role and am excited about FMS Bank's opportunities to drive even more service capability and value for our customers, community partners, and shareholders," said James Smith, President and COO, FMS Bank. "We are well positioned to expand our unique, community bank relationship-based approach to even more consumers and small businesses in Northern Colorado."
Sneed will continue to be the Board Chair and Director for FMS Bank and a tireless advocate for businesses and individuals in the communities of Fort Morgan and Greeley.
