GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is thrilled to announce the reopening date of Monday, June 8, 2020 at 9:00 am. The reopening of Meijer Gardens is made possible by the long standing generous support of the Meijer family, the willingness of our members to continue to support us, the dedication of our volunteers and the loyalty and hard work of our employee team members. "During this most difficult time, it has been a privilege for me to be in a position to see how so many kind, passionate and dedicated people from all walks of life have come together to unite and sustain Meijer Gardens," said President & CEO David Hooker.
Like all cultural organizations, Meijer Gardens has suffered significant losses and it will take years of work to fully recover. At the same time, others have suffered far more. Some people have lost everything to COVID-19. Businesses are permanently closed due to the pandemic and violence. Many people are unemployed. Other extremely important cultural organizations in the core of our city have had to deal with the pandemic and this past weekend with violence. "We stand with our friends in this unprecedented time and support them as we all seek to reopen and serve the public," continued Hooker.
Meijer Gardens will be operating with new and enhanced safety procedures. There will be extensive signage and wayfinding icons to help people social distance. However, the most important part of complying with the rules and guidelines established by Federal and State authorities will be the voluntary compliance of our guests. We sincerely request all our guests comply for the safety and benefit of all.
Our upcoming exhibition, George Segal: Body Language will open shortly. Because of the government orders, our highly skilled curatorial team has been prevented from entering the galleries to finalize the presentation of the show. This will be the first time that the artist's sculptures will be presented side by side with an extensive selection of his two-dimensional works, including prints. The exhibition will open in approximately one week and will be an excellent and unique opportunity to explore how Segal uses body language to create art in different mediums.
Due to current social distancing and safety guidelines, certain areas within the main building and outside grounds will remain closed for the time being. For the most current information regarding enhanced safety procedures and a map showing areas that are temporarily closed, visit MeijerGardens.org/COVID
Membership Extensions: In appreciation of our members and due to the three-month closure, Meijer Gardens is offering members who were active as of March 13 the opportunity to extend their membership free-of-charge. Membership extension information is available at MeijerGardens.org/membership. This one-time offer is good through June 30, 2020.
