ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 1, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Greenberg Traurig, LLP Real Estate Litigation Shareholders Michelle D. Gambino and Howard K. Jeruchimowitz spoke about preventing retail leases from ending up in litigation during the 2022 ICSC+U.S. LAW Conference held Oct. 26-28 in Orlando, Florida. Shareholder Neil Oberfeld, also in the firm's Real Estate Practice, served as a planning committee member for the annual event and co-chaired the presentation of 58 roundtable sessions.
Gambino, co-chair of the firm's Real Estate Litigation Practice, and Jeruchimowitz, a member of the firm's Litigation Practice, appeared together on a general session panel titled "You're Vaccinated, Now Let's Immunize Your Lease from the Litigators." The panel discussed how leases could lead to litigation, as well as possible strategies for preventing lawsuits and winning favorable court rulings.
For more than 50 years, the ICSC+U.S. LAW Conference has provided an opportunity for retail real estate legal professionals to gain industry-specific knowledge and insight from leading authorities in the field. ICSC, previously the International Council of Shopping Centers, recently rebranded as ICSC with a tagline "Innovating Commerce Serving Communities."
Based in Greenberg Traurig's Northern Virginia office, Gambino routinely serves as lead counsel in high-profile litigation matters, including complicated lease disputes, "projects gone wrong," and anchor-tenant holdout disputes. Her successful representations include winning a $31 million verdict on behalf of Lord & Taylor against the owners of a mall in Montgomery County, Maryland, and defeating an injunction aimed at stopping a $330 million mixed-use development in downtown San Diego last year.
Jeruchimowitz, based in the firm's Chicago office, focuses his commercial litigation practice on the real estate, construction, and financial services industries. Working with clients who include property owners, developers, landlords, tenants, and lenders, he handles a wide range of matters from shopping center disputes to mechanics liens and foreclosures. He has served on the board of editors for Shopping Center Law & Strategy, is a frequent speaker at the ICSC conference, and recently finished serving as co-chair of the American Bar Association (ABA)'s Real Estate Litigation, Trust, and Condemnation Committee; he now serves as a member of the ABA Section of Litigation's Virtual Programming Board.
Oberfeld, a shareholder in the firm's Denver office, assists national and regional retailers, developers, institutional owners, and investors in real estate and general business matters. He concentrates his practice on acquisitions, developments, leasing, finance, and investment transactions, including retail, office, and industrial real estate; joint venture and fund formation and investment; secured and commercial loan transactions; and property tax assessment.
