About The Mohawk Valley Trading Company Natural Handmade Soaps
The ingredients used in the Mohawk Valley Trading Company Natural Handmade Soaps are all-natural and they do not use synthetic or artificial fragrances, dyes, detergents, or preservatives.
Rather than using animal fat (tallow) their soaps are made with high quality goats' milk, shea butter and natural plant oils including, organic hemp seed oil, olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor bean oil, and avocado oil.
The most popular soaps in their lineup is the goats' milk and Castile soap.
Castile soap is traditionally an olive oil based hard soap. Its origins are difficult to pinpoint exactly, but they trace to such areas as the Eastern Mediterranean, Northern Italy, and the Kingdom of Castile (Spain, today).
Castile soaps have been produced for hundreds of years and it is believed that following the Crusades, Aleppo soap (an olive oil and Bay Laurel based castile soap) was brought back to Europe.
There are many varieties of Castile soap, such as Aleppo and Marseille, which vary based on the type of oil used, and the combination of other ingredients. The purest form of Castile soap is white in color, hard, and odorless, but makers will add their own scented oils or blend in coarse ingredients such as oatmeal for exfoliation purposes.
Being made with natural ingredients makes Castile soap a sought after variety of soap by people with sensitive skin and those wishing to be environmentally conscious.
Many of the beneficial ingredients in goats' milk soap come naturally in goat milk which would otherwise need to be added to water-based soaps.
Goat milk weakens the bonds affixing dead skins cells because it naturally contains alpha-hydroxy acids that aid in the removal of dead skin cells leaving a smoother, more youthful-looking skin surface.
Some water-based soaps use harsh chemicals to achieve this same result, which can lead to harmful effects on skin.
Goat milk is high in vitamin A which helps nourish and repair skin. Studies have shown that Vitamin A can provide numerous healthful effects on skin conditions such as acne, wrinkles, and some lessening of psoriasis. Although some water-based soaps have been artificially fortified with vitamins, most aren't.
The fat molecules in the milk creates the creaminess of goat milk soap which increases its moisturizing quality. It does not dry out your skin, but rather keeps your skin naturally moisturized to maintain your skin's health.
Along with many naturally occurring vitamins, goat milk also contains beneficial minerals. Selenium is often used in anti-dandruff shampoos to kill the scalp fungus that causes shedding of dry skin fragments and is naturally present in goat milk. Water based soaps do contain some minerals such as calcium, sodium, or iron, though those minerals don't provide much value for your skin.
The use of synthetic-free and petroleum-free natural ingredients provides the unique qualities of their handmade natural soap.
