The Fitts Law Firm in Houston will be awarding a $1,000 educational scholarship to individuals diagnosed with autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD).
HOUSTON, May 4, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Fitts Law Firm, a Houston personal injury and insurance law firm, has announced that it will be awarding an educational scholarship open to individuals diagnosed with autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD). The $1,000 tuition scholarship will assist the winning entrant in attending a post-secondary school, i.e., a college, junior college, or university.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently reported that approximately one in every 36 children has been identified with ASD. Autism affects those in all ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic groups. Significantly, those with autism may communicate, interact, and learn in ways that are different from others. The extent of the impact of ASD may vary significantly from person to person.
ASD symptoms may appear before the age of 3, and can, in some cases, last for a person's entire life. As the child reaches school age, communication and relationship difficulties may have a profound effect on the person's education, social interaction, and other areas. Because of this, those with autism may also encounter difficulties maintaining relationships with others, and understanding what might be expected of them in school and on the job.
The Fitts Law Firm seeks to encourage those with autism spectrum disorder to expand their options going forward. Along with diagnosis and treatment, the firm is hopeful that this will provide the winning applicant with additional motivation to continue with their education, which is often cut short for those with autism.
The application process is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with autism (DSM-V), and (a) who is currently a high school senior who plans on attending college, or (b) who is currently attending a college, junior college, or university (including graduate school) who plans on continuing their education. Applications are due no later than December 20, 2023.
Anyone who would like to apply for the scholarship, as well as anyone who has questions, or would like to learn more about the firm's scholarship program, should visit the firm's website. There you will find the specifics of the application process, the firm's privacy policy, and other pertinent information.
