OTTAWA, Ontario, Nov. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hundreds of activists and social sector workers are gathering this month to find solutions to Canada's urgent digital inequity problem.
On November 28 and 29, social sector workers and community activists will gather at the 2022 2nd annual Future of Good summit to put their heads together on a major problem: Canada's digital divide.
The stats are bleak. Only 24 per cent of Indigenous communities in Canada have access to high speed internet, and 53 per cent of all rural households have the same.
Meanwhile, the social sector's important, even life-saving services are increasingly expected to move online. But the sector's facing its own challenges, too: four out of five non-profits say they're struggling to adapt to a digital-first world.
And all of this amidst record-high inflation? It's a perfect storm, one that Canada just wasn't prepared for. But there are hundreds of advocates and social sector professionals ready to course-correct.
Future of Good, a digital publication covering social impact work, is hosting a Dismantling Digital Barriers Summit to help them do just that.
Over two days, Future of Good's team of reporters will host roundtable discussions to help the sector get a grasp on just how dire the problem is — and showcase promising solutions, from direct funding for non-profits' digital upgrades to Indigenous-led internet service providers.
Speakers and topics can be found on Future of Good's website. The summit is presented in partnership with MasterCard ChangeWorks ™ and the Canadian Internet Registration Authority.
"It's confounding that in 2022, digital inequity isn't considered an urgent human rights issue. But the countless communities, organizations, and activists taking action are cause for hope. The Dismantling Digital Barriers Summit will be a unique opportunity to learn about their essential work," says Kylie Adair, editor of Future of Good.
