Visitors Can Now Experience, Up Close Aerial Views of Denali National Park Arriving In and Departing Out of the Lodge
KANTISHNA, Alaska, May 11, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Kantishna Roadhouse, an all-inclusive, once in a lifetime Alaskan backcountry experience and resort, located at the foot of Denali Mountain, today announced the opening of its 2022 season. The Roadhouse is featuring a FLY IN experience while the road is closed for repairs, giving visitors a rare opportunity to fly into the area and experience the wildlife and splendor of Denali National Park - home to Mt. Denali - the tallest mountain in North America.
With a peak reaching 20,310 feet above sea level, Mt. Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley) is the third highest of the Seven Summits and deserving of its ancient moniker which translates to "the high one." In 2015, President Barack Obama restored the Alaskan name, which bears deep cultural significance to the Koyukon Athabascans - the original inhabitants of the area.
Though the peak inspires awe, it is one of the most remote mountains in the world. Kantishna is the farthest point in the Park and closest to the base of Mt. Denali. Hitherto last fall, visitors accessed the Roadhouse via a single 92-mile-long road which has since closed due to a rock slide with no immediate plans of reopening. Fortunately, Kantishna Roadhouse is accessible by air.
A true escape, the Kantishna Valley is a secluded wilderness in the very heart of the six-million acre Denali National Park. Denali remains one of the few places in the world where untouched, undisturbed natural beauty and wildlife exist. The modern, contemporary lodge includes all the amenities needed for a comfortable escape - and is the only lodging option in Kantishna with a full-service bar.
"Since the road closure, visitors assumed the Park and Roadhouse were also closed. Not so! The fly in option actually makes this a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and experience untouched Alaskan wilderness up close and personal," said Jordan Sanford, General Manager of Kantishna Roadhouse. "Kantishna served as a gold mining town before becoming part of the park. Its history is as rich and varied as the landscape. Now visitors can take advantage of one of the most exclusive destinations in North America."
The main Roadhouse contains two dining rooms with fireplaces and large windows providing sweeping views of the vista and, occasionally, local wildlife such as caribou and moose. All meals are provided and prepared with fresh ingredients. Along with its comfortable cabins, the Roadhouse offers a full-service bar, a library that opens onto a large screened porch, a gift shop, a greenhouse and many other cozy spots to gather both inside and outdoors.
"In a remote area where few are lucky enough to travel, you will find adventure, tranquility and an escape from every-day modern life. Your stay includes accommodations with a private bath, meals, a variety of daily activities, hiking opportunities, naturalist programs and the chance to observe wildlife and experience the breathtaking scenery of Denali Park — all up close and personal." adds Sanford.
Kantishna Roadhouse Lodge is operating on a fly-in only basis for the 2022 summer season, June 21 - September 13, 2022, operating on a fixed schedule of arrivals and departures. Stays begin on either a Tuesday or Saturday and include 3-night, 4 night or 7-night stays.
