Lexicon Technologies Earns Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Certification
Conyers, Georgia (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- This morning, Lexicon Technologies announced the ANSI/ESD S20.20 certification for the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Control Program at their depot repair facility on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia. Their control program was audited and assessed against the provisions of ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007 and certified and registered by National Quality Assurance USA, an ESD Association recognized certification body.
Electrostatic discharge is the sudden flow of electricity between objects that damages electronic components. ESD certification for a facility provides confirmation that a company understands, implements and utilizes best practices and problem solving techniques for ESD protection.
“ESD is an invisible enemy that causes significant quality problems in the electronics industry,” explained Dave Word, Lexicon’s director of technical services. “An effective ESD control program significantly reduces failures and produces beneficial results in terms of product life and reliability. It also substantially improves the MTBF [mean time between failure] on a customer’s product.”
According to the ESD Association, certification results in a higher product yield and quality as well as improved job performance as a byproduct of increased safety. Companies who pursue certification seek to ensure higher quality to reduce product loss. As electronics decrease in size, their miniaturized electronic components become more susceptible to ESD. For companies using, maintaining and repairing these products, the implementation and maintenance of an ESD control program is crucial.
“Stringent and diligent ESD control is something we've practiced for years and is critical to the safe handling and long useful life of electronic assemblies,” said Travis Collins, Lexicon’s chief executive officer. “Formally sitting for certification recognizes the good performance of our quality and repair teams in this area. We want our clients to know how seriously we take this issue; ESD certification is another means to a more reliable and longer lasting deployment of their electronics based products.”
