"Maryland warmly and enthusiastically welcomes the opening of the state's newest great attraction and economic development engine, the Great Wolf Lodge of Perryville in Cecil County," said Tom Riford, executive director of the Maryland Marketing Partnership. "Between the economic impact and positive publicity for the state, this is a home run for everyone. We're thrilled to welcome so many new visitors, many from out-of-state, and introduce them to Great Wolf Lodge and the great state of Maryland."
Great Wolf Lodge estimates that its new resort will welcome upwards of nearly 800,000 visitors annually, more than half of which will come from outside of Maryland. The total economic impact during the construction phase was more than $350 million, and during full operations, the annual economic impact will be approximately $100 million annually. Thus far, Great Wolf Lodge has brought more than 1,000 jobs to Maryland, both part and full-time.
Great Wolf Lodge held its ribbon-cutting event on June 29, 2023 with Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Secretary of Commerce Kevin Anderson. Baltimore-native celebrities Anna Faris, actress, and Duff Goldman, baker and owner of Charm City Cakes, also attended the grand opening event. Goldman partnered with the resort to create a cake replica of Otter Cave Waterworks, the water park's fort treehouse, for the event plus four original cupcakes based on the Great Wolf Lodge characters to be sold at Great Wolf Lodge for a limited time. All cupcake proceeds will go to the Believe In Tomorrow Children's House at Johns Hopkins.
"It is with great honor and pleasure that we officially open our doors to Great Wolf Lodge in Maryland, as I can't think of a better place to call home for our largest resort yet," said Nadine Miracle, general manager of Great Wolf Lodge Maryland. "We strategically chose this location in Cecil County as a convenient family getaway destination for guests living in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Wilmington, and many other Mid-Atlantic and Northeast areas. We're looking forward to bringing excitement, fun, and new adventures that will drive tourism, Maryland pride, and most of all, warm family memories."
