New course empowers healthcare leaders to harness AI for improved patient care, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- MIT Sloan Executive Education, in collaboration with MIT Jameel Clinic, today announces the launch of "Transforming Healthcare with AI," a two-day program designed to help healthcare leaders harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve patient care and streamline operations. Tailored for executives in both public and private healthcare sectors, as well as practicing medical professionals, this course offers participants the opportunity to explore AI's transformative potential in healthcare on the MIT campus.
This immersive, in-person program will equip participants with actionable insights into the latest AI technologies, including machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL) and generative AI (GenAI), and demonstrate how these innovations are already revolutionizing healthcare. The inaugural session will take place March 24-25, and the course will be offered again October 23-24.
Throughout the course, attendees will gain a deep understanding of how AI can enhance decision-making, optimize operations, and mitigate risks within healthcare settings. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to connect with world-class faculty and like-minded peers to share insights, address challenges, and develop actionable strategies for successfully integrating AI into their organizations.
Key topics covered include:
- Foundational AI knowledge for healthcare applications
- Practical uses of AI in patient care, diagnostics, and hospital management
- Ethical, regulatory, and operational challenges in AI adoption
This course will be led by Regina Barzilay, School of Engineering Distinguished Professor for AI and Health, and AI Faculty Lead at the MIT Jameel Clinic. Barzilay's research has been recognized with the MacArthur Fellowship, an NSF Career Award, and the AAAI Squirrel AI Award for Artificial Intelligence for the Benefit of Humanity. The course will feature additional faculty from MIT, including Visiting Senior Lecturer in Information Technology at MIT Sloan Paul McDonagh-Smith, as well as industry experts from Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
"Patients have a right to access better care. Not only can AI equip clinicians with better tools to assess a patient's condition, but it can also produce more targeted therapeutic treatments with high efficiency and efficacy. The highly interactive format of this course will help healthcare leaders unleash new opportunities in medicine," said Barzilay.
"The impact of AI in healthcare is already here—it's not a future promise. From early disease detection to personalized treatment plans, AI-driven innovations are revolutionizing patient care and operational efficiency. This course empowers healthcare leaders with the critical knowledge to deploy AI responsibly and effectively, ensuring meaningful impact across a variety of healthcare environments," said McDonagh-Smith.
