Mollie Haycock Promoted to Winemaker for Scott Harvey Wines
After Seventeen Years, Amador Pioneer Scott Harvey Gives up the Reins.
PLYMOUTH, Calif. , June 16, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Women are transforming the wine industry and Scott Harvey Wines is on the cutting edge of that trend, promoting Mollie Haycock to Winemaker as she takes over the day to day operations from the winery's namesake. As the company grows, Scott Harvey moves to Executive Winemaker and hands over the reinds to Mollie, his protege for the past six years.
"Mollie brings a great education and years of international experience to winemaking," said Scott Harvey. "But what I really appreciate about Mollie is her passion for the wines of the Amador region. We're making world-class wines here, and Mollie is poised to take Scott Harvey Wines and Amador County to a whole new level."
"I'm incredibly proud of Mollie for her hard work, her knowledge and talent," said Jana Harvey, Scott's wife and the company's President. "It's great to see women making their mark in the wine industry and Mollie is absolutely deserving of this promotion. I can't wait to taste the 2021 vintages she's going to produce."
"I was honored when Scott and Jana hired me in 2015 as Assistant Winemaker," said Haycock. "Scott's history and reputation are just stellar in Amador County and beyond. I have learned so much from him over the past six years and I am over the moon that Scott is entrusting me with his name and his winery. I can't begin to match his years of experience, but, he will be close by, and I have him on speed-dial. I'm planning to continue his legacy of making great Amador County Zinfandel, Barbera, and Syrah, and European-style wines from other regions that pair with great food and great friends."
Scott Harvey will continue a close association with the winery that bears his name, serving as Executive Winemaker. "I have every faith that Mollie is going make great wine," said Harvey. "She's definitely ready to drive, but I may still want to take a spin around the vineyard once in a while."
Mollie Haycock graduated with a BS in both Enology and Wine Business from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While still in college she worked in the lab at a large winery in Paso Robles for two vintages. She has also worked at wineries in the Carneros region, New Zealand, and South Africa before returning to Northern California, eventually landing at Scott Harvey Wines in 2015.
Mollie is passionate about the personal relationship that she has with the wines and the opportunity to see how the grapes from each vineyard turn into something unique and delicious during the aging process. She is a "hands-on" winemaker working in the vineyards, the crush-pad, the lab and of course, in the winery itself. You will often find Mollie zipping around on the forklift moving barrels and pallets, and always taking great care of the winery. When she is not making exceptional wines, Mollie loves to travel, take in live music performances and theater, and enjoy a really good meal with good friends and, of course, good wine.
