WHISTLER, British Columbia, Aug. 9, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Round four of the EWS Whistler mountain bike race is officially in the books! Monster Energy congratulates 28-year-old team rider Jack Moir from Morisset Park, Australia on his second-place finish at the Enduro World Series Round 4 in Whistler this weekend. The reigning champion proved he is still ever the podium threat.
After a slow start to the season, the Australian returned to top form this week sliding back into second place after event winner Jesse Melamed at what is undoubtedly one of the toughest races of the year for EWS. The series returned to Whistler for the first time since 2019, but not without drama. Richie Rude was trailing Melamed by just 10 seconds when a blowout on the last stage took him out of contention for a top spot leaving Moir the opportunity to claim second.
The six-stage, two-day event features a Pro Stage on day one and racers return to take on five stages on day two. Round 4 stretched over 2730m climbing and 39.4 km, and made for an extremely challenging event on the brand-new track under the Whistler sunshine. The race featured some of Whistler's most iconic trails, including Micro Climate, No Joke and the newly finished 1199, a tribute to the late World Cup legend Stevie Smith.
Moir's race went well and included a stage win on the 5th stage, a second on stage 3 and two third places on the Pro stage and stage 1. When the dust settled Moir finished the race with a total time of 41:30.370 behind Canada's Jesse Melamed who calmed the win at 41:14.340.
"I'm happy to be back on the podium and in 4th place overall, but still hoping to make improvements for the next three rounds," said Moir.
Moir now sits in 4th place in the series overall with plenty of racing yet to come. Unfortunately, Monster Energy's Sam Hill was not able to hit the podium as he did in 2019 when he took second place at EWS Whistler Round 6. After a crash in the Pro Stage that set him back to start the event, he landed in 27th.
What's next on the EWS? Stay tuned as the series heads to Vermont for Round 5 where the enduro racers report back to action next week and take on a grueling schedule with three consecutive back-to-back rounds.
