XFERALL Will Slash The Time It Takes To Find Patient Beds At Appropriate Facilities
MIAMI, Jan. 4, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- XFERALL (pronounced "Transfer-All"), the nation's leading patient transfer platform, announced today it is expanding into the state of New Jersey. The first-of-its-kind technology platform and app allows first responders and hospitals to broadcast a request to nearby facilities for patients requiring transfers. Facilities that have appropriate resources to admit the patient can instantaneously accept the transfer.
Five New Jersey behavioral health organizations will be included in the initial state launch. Hampton Behavioral Health Center and Summit Oaks Hospital will receive patient transfer requests. The other three facilities are screening and placement agencies that will complete assessments for patients with a behavioral health crisis and then use XFERALL to expedite patient placement and transfers. All receiving behavioral health hospitals in New Jersey will be able to receive a transfer request via the XFERALL portal.
XFERALL's New Jersey launch comes when hospitals throughout the nation face a growing crisis known as "emergency department boarding." Patients, particularly those presenting with suicidal risk factors or other behavioral health crises, enter the ER and wait days or even weeks before hospital staff can locate an appropriate facility to admit them.
"This is an important step in XFERALL's growth, as well as a crucial development in our industry as we seek to minimize the impact of overcrowding, staffing shortages, and outdated systems," said Nathan Read, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at XFERALL. "XFERALL will help New Jersey hospitals more rapidly find resources for hard-to-place patients. Meanwhile, those facilities admitting patients will optimize their intake operations to respond more quickly to patients in need of services at their facility. It's a win-win for the industry and for patients who will finally get care more quickly."
Hundreds of hospitals, public safety programs, and mobile crisis teams already use XFERALL. Facilities focused on behavioral health or those with inpatient psychiatric units have been among the most prolific users of the XFERALL system because of a nationwide shortage of inpatient behavioral health programs.
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, hospital emergency department wait times for children and adolescents seeking mental health treatment were climbing, according to an April 2021 study in "Pediatrics." Between 2005 and 2015, the number of children's emergency department mental health visits lasting more than 6 hours increased from 16.3% to 24.6%.
"The current state of our industry requires every facility to dedicate resources to expedite patient care. With XFERALL, we can support the well-being of individuals, families, and organizations by expediting inbound transfers," added Craig Hilton, CEO at Hampton Behavioral Health Center. "We can help more people as they navigate difficult times in their lives."
XFERALL's platform eliminates the need for repetitive, time-consuming steps used by transferring facilities to identify available beds, resources, and clinically appropriate staff to accept patient transfers. These facilities can communicate directly with receiving facilities through the XFERALL app, and as a result, clinicians can focus more on patient care, and patients get the essential care they need more quickly. Healthcare facilities that use XFERALL have seen an 86% reduction in time spent locating a facility to accept a patient transfer. In addition, facilities save an average of 133 minutes per patient transfer by eliminating faxing and phone calls to find an available provider for a patient.
Hampton Behavioral Health Center offers inpatient and outpatient treatment at two locations, with specialized programs for adolescents, adults, and seniors, including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder treatment, with a dual program for behavioral issues and chemical dependency. Summit Oaks Hospital, also part of the initial launch in New Jersey, is one of the state's longest-standing mental health and substance use treatment facilities.
