National Gypsum Plant to Celebrate 15 Years in Rensselaer, Indiana
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) September 16, 2013 -- Thirty-nine associates of National Gypsum’s Rensselaer, IN, drywall finishing products plant will celebrate the plant’s 15th year at its 1325 E. Maple Street location on September 18.
The plant produces ProForm® brand joint treatment products to finish gypsum wallboard after it is installed. It was constructed at a cost of $10 million. Eleven of the original employees are still with the company, including Plant Manager Shane Whaley.
“A large number of our associates were hired shortly after we opened the plant,” he said. “Our associates have made this plant successful. They are well-trained, quality and safety conscious and can step into any job that needs to be done. We have had tremendous support from Sales, as well. We expect our business to increase approximately 12 percent this year and have an equivalent increase next year.”
The plant produces both ready mixed joint compound and dry powders contractors mix with water. It also manufactures paper tape used in the finishing process. The Rensselaer plant is the only one in the National Gypsum system producing tape. It is also the first to package ready mix in eight-sided “meta” cartons. Because of the shape, the cartons are stronger and easier to stack. Installers also find it easier to use the ready mix packaged in this type of carton.
Last year, the plant, which serves the Midwest and Central areas of the country, produced over 16 million gallons of ready mix, nearly 11,000 tons of dry powders, and over five million rolls of tape. The products are shipped to distributors and can be purchased at retail outlets such as Lowe’s. Menards, and Walmart. They are sold locally at Kem’s in Rensselaer, IN.
