National Society of Collegiate Scholars Awards $50,000 in Scholarships to Diverse Students with Partner GEICO
NSCS is proud to award 14 scholarships focused on diversity to students across the country.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 7, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), the nation's premier collegiate honor society for first-and-second year college students, has awarded 14 scholarships totaling $50,000 to diverse collegiate students across the country.
In 2020, NSCS launched the Scholar 2025 initiative to combat the increasing cost of higher education. The goal is to increase member-only scholarships and awards sustainably and incrementally year-over-year. This will culminate in an additional $250,000 for the year 2025 and every year thereafter, thus impacting more than 500 NSCS students from minority, marginalized and underserved communities. With a large and diverse membership pool, including 55 percent female and 49 percent non-Caucasian, NSCS is strategically poised to impact more students from underserved communities in the next five years.
"We have a deep commitment to helping students, especially in today's difficult landscape of student debt," said Scott Mobley, executive director of NSCS. "Thanks to our long-standing partnership with GEICO we are able to truly make a difference in the lives of 14 of our high-achieving members this year."
GEICO is a leader in the community impact space, having donated/raised millions in 2019 through the support of numerous organizations. With a national reach and a longstanding commitment to the communities they serve, GEICO aims to help people of color, women, LGBTQ+, and Latinx populations.
"We want to continue to make a difference in the communities that we live and work in by helping to provide educational opportunities to as many underserved students as we can," said Carl Tims, vice president and Chief Diversity Officer of GEICO. "With NSCS, we hope to continue to assist students facing financial burdens while seeking their degrees, with hope of creating a more equitable and diverse work force in the future."
In total, GEICO awarded four $2,500 scholarships to each category of First in Family, Minority Students in STEM, and Women in STEM, as well as one $10,000 HBCU Student of The Year and one $10,000 Latinx Student of the Year scholarships. Recipients include:
