NCU's School of Social and Behavioral Sciences Expands With New Graduate Degree Programs in Social Work and Educational Psychology

SAN DIEGO, August 8, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Social workers and educators face some of society's most difficult challenges, and as a result, both fields must constantly evolve. To meet this demand, Northcentral University (NCU) is today launching two new master's-level degree programs in social work and educational psychology.

"The tremendous demand for social workers and educators is undeniable, with many job markets expecting 15-20 percent growth from 2016 to 2026, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics," says Dr. James Billings, Dean of NCU's School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

NCU's new offerings in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences include:

• Master of Educational Psychology – This program is designed for psychology students interested in the social services and education sectors, which the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts will grow to 8.6 million total jobs by 2026. Degree candidates will be prepared for roles related to supporting students in educational settings and program development through a 30-credit program consisting of nine 8-week courses and a capstone project or internship.
• "Degree candidates in this program will graduate with the knowledge to enhance diverse learning environments by applying principles and research from educational psychology," says Billings. "The option of completing a 12-week internship in the field in lieu of a traditional capstone provides the opportunity to learn and apply these skills, even before graduation."
• Master of Social Work – The program has been designed to meet the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) national accreditation standards** and is comprised of two degree tracks: Master of Social Work (MSW) Foundation (60 credits) and MSW Advanced Standing (36 credits) for those with a bachelor in social work from a CSWE-accredited program. Both degree tracks offer practicum opportunities to ensure that graduates enter the job market with valuable experience in the field, whether they intend to pursue a clinical license to provide therapy or apply their degree in a leadership/administrative role in public or nonprofit sectors.
