NEW YORK, July 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- It's been just over a week since Defeat By Tweet launched, and it is already making an impact on the election.
The premise behind the platform is simple - every time Trump tweets, donors make a micro-donation (as low as a penny) to the Justice Fund - a syndicate of Black-led GOTV orgs working in the swing states. The more Trump tweets, the more financial support pours in for orgs working to vote him out.
Since launching on Friday, June 26, the platform has picked up nearly 10,000 donors and is now moving nearly $500 to the field every time Trump tweets. DBT has raised over $570,000 in its first 10-days.
Defeat By Tweet has already picked up a wide variety of supporters, from Presidential Candidates Cory Booker and Andrew Yang, activists Patrisse Cullors, Paola Mendoza, and Shaun King, entertainers Mark Ruffalo, Olivia Wilde, Noah Centineo, and Alyssa Milano, business leaders Hunter Walk, Mike Novogratz, influencers Sophia Bush and Louis Cole, and progressive leaders Robert Wolf and Michael Moore. Even Trump's for Press Secretary Anthony Scaramucci got in the action. See a growing list of notable influencers and their supporting tweets here.
"This has been a cathartic experience for so many people! Trump's tweets have been the worst part of so many people's days for years! Our donors are now able to ignore the content and celebrate the volume," says Defeat By Tweet founder Xander Schultz. "More importantly, we are moving large amounts of recurring donations to Black-led 501c4 and PACs so they can help turnout their communities and vote-in the representatives they deserve."
"I'm so grateful we get to challenge 45 in this moment by creating political institutions that are deliberately for Black life and for Black healing. Our movement to get Trump out of office and move resources to support our communities is in such a powerful place. We need everyone to get involved right now to usher in a new America," added Patrisse Cullors, Senior Advisor to Justice Fund org Trap Heals Life and Co-Founder of Black Lives Matter.
About Defeat By Tweet
