FREDERICK, Md., July 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sophie and Madigan's Playground, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing a themed and inclusive playground to Frederick that honors the memory of sisters Sophie and Madigan Lillard, is sponsoring a yard sale on July 26 and 27th.
Dozens of Frederick residents donated a wide range of items for the yard sale – from furniture, appliances, and electronics to clothing, toys, exercise equipment and games. The yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to noon both days at 7836 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD.
Chrissi Lillard, who founded the organization with her husband, Jack, thanked the community for their donations and continuous support to help fund the Sophie and Madigan Lillard Memorial Playground.
"We posted an announcement on our social media pages about the yard sale and were blown away at the outpouring of donations for our yard sale that continue to pour in," Chrissi Lillard said. "This community is so loving and generous, reflecting the spirit of our girls. We can't wait until the community can enjoy the beauty and wonderment of our memorial playground."
The Sophie and Madigan Lillard Memorial Playground will go up on the city-owned Hargatt Farm property, located off of Butterfly Lane on the site of the new Westside Regional Park. The playground will feature three different play areas, referred to as "lands" – Fantasy Land, Neverland and Wonderland — with different custom-made playground equipment designed with the girls' personalities in mind.
Sophie and Madigan were 6 and 3 years old respectively on January 31, 2013 when a fire ripped through their Myersville, Maryland home, claiming their lives, killing the family's four pets and destroying virtually all of the Lillard's possessions. Chrissi and Jack founded the nonprofit in June 2013 as a way to honor the memory of the girls as well as provide the Frederick County community a place where families could go to play, create and build memories with their loved ones.
In the event of rain, the yard sale will be rescheduled for Aug. 2 and 3rd.
