SINGAPORE, Aug. 26, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- When Covid-19 hit, the fashion industry felt the blow full-force, affecting even its standard practice of utilizing models for promotional campaigns. At the same time, noted fashion and advertising photographer, Shavonne Wong, was also experiencing a lull in work. With that unexpected down time, she set out to future-proof her own career and provide new options to fashion brands and creative agencies struggling through her same challenges. By building a better business model. Literally.
Last month, Wong launched Gen V Agency, a virtual modeling agency, whereby she creates lifelike 3D virtual models that give clients new ways to promote their apparel, accessories and brand messages. Wong personally designs the Gen V models – each of which features a unique aesthetic and personality: from the exotic Lunah to free-spirited Lilium to sophisticated Kade. The models even have their own individual Instagram pages, making them virtual influencers in a sense.
Clients review the selection of models and hire the one or ones, that best fit their needs, much as they would a human model. From there, Gen V handles all details of the simulated photo shoot to meld the 3D model with the client's products or messages, even creating the settings. According to Wong, virtual models allow for more flexibility and creativity as they are instantly available for work and adjustments to their makeup, measurements, poses and attire can be made with the click of a mouse.
While Wong is quick to assert that her intention is not to replace live models, she does believe that virtual models have an important place in a world that is increasingly digitally driven.
"My goal is not to replace real life models but to provide brands and clients with options. Some brands will benefit from human models and some will enjoy the flexibility and creativity of creating a virtual model for their message. And most will utilize a combination of both. The goal with Gen V is to give brands more choices, not fewer," said Wong. "Let's face it, technology has opened the door wide to amazing possibilities across all industries. Virtual models are an absolute game-changer in the fashion industry."
And Wong just so happens to have the experience and credentials to back up that assertion with a background that encompasses tech, photography and business. Not only did she study IT in college, over the past decade she has built a successful career as an independent fashion, beauty, lifestyle and celebrity photographer. Her clients have included mega-brands like Lancôme and Sephora and her resume encompasses regular guest stints on Asia's Next Top Model, photo credits in Vogue, Glamour and Cosmopolitan, and an ambassadorship with Fujifilm. She was also recently named to Forbes Asia's list of 30 Under 30 entrepreneurs in the arts to watch.
"I have always looked for the opportunities within life's challenges. This pandemic is a wake-up call for innovation. I'm excited about the limitless possibilities that Gen V will provide for creative ad and editorial campaigns moving forward," added Wong.
In the future Gen V's models will also be available as spokespersons and emcees. For more information about Gen V, go to genv.agency, Instagram, and Twitter. For more information on Shavonne Wong, go to shavonnewong.com.
