Notre Dame de Namur University Receives $2.5 Million Federal Grant to Support Transfer Student Pathways and Student Success
Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) has received a Title V grant of $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Education to support programs that recruit, retain, and advise transfer, first-generation-to-college, and Latinx students.
BELMONT, Calif., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ --Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) has received a Title V grant of $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Education to support programs that recruit, retain, and advise transfer, first-generation-to-college, and Latinx students.
"This grant is aligned with our strategy to strengthen transfer student pathways and become the premier not-for-profit Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) university in Silicon Valley," said President Judith Maxwell Greig.
The STARS (Success in Transfer and Retention for Students) initiative funded by the Title V grant will be paid out over a five-year period. STARS aims to develop strategic transfer pathways with community colleges while focusing on boosting student success and graduation. These objectives will be met by:
- Enhancing transfer articulation processes to increase transfer enrollment.
- Creating a centralized advising center, peer academic coaching program; and providing workshops on a variety of topics to increase retention rates.
- Providing professional development for faculty and staff; and supporting development of online and hybrid courses.
"Notre Dame de Namur University was recently ranked #1 for social mobility among private colleges in Northern California by CollegeNET. And this grant will provide another opportunity for Hispanic California Community College transfer students to improve their social mobility upon graduation." said Provost Hernan Bucheli.
