Steven J. Malman, Chicago Nursing Home Abuse Lawyer, Appears on "You and the Law"
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 08, 2013 -- Steven J. Malman, president and founder of Chicago's Malman Law, appeared on June 17, 2013's episode of "You and the Law," which was hosted by Barry L. Gordon, an attorney at Barry L. Gordon & Associates, PC, and also featured Ari Kirshner, an associate general counsel at NuCare Services Corp. "You and the Law" is a topical, panel-format talk show organized by the Chicago Bar Association that features experts in the field of law to discuss the impact of public policy changes and court decisions. It airs on cable channel 19, in three twelve-week seasons per year, and reaches more than 500,000 households throughout the Chicagoland area.
On the program, which is produced entirely by attorneys and focuses on informing viewers about the law and the role of judges and lawyers, Malman discussed the rights of nursing home residents regarding their care and finances, as well as the responsibilities care facilities have to their residents. As a Chicago nursing home abuse lawyer, Malman has dealt with issues of both negligence and abuse, and utilized his experience with countless cases to discuss the details of what is considered abuse or negligence, as well as what rights people have for legal recourse.
"The first thing we tell residents to do is report it to the administration staff at the nursing home. If it's not rectified there, they should contact the Illinois Department of Public Health, there's a hotline, they will come out and investigate, and after that they should immediately contact an attorney to investigate further," Steve Malman said.
Among the topics discussed on the program were how relatives of nursing home residents can recognize signs of abuse, and what they should look for when visiting their family members. Malman noted that since some residents don't have frequent visits from family, signs of abuse and negligence can go unnoticed for too long. Once abuse is discovered, however, residents and their family members have the right to fight for nursing home negligence compensation.
Other topics discussed on the program were common types of nursing home negligence and abuse, like medication errors, and the push to convert residents' medical charts from paper to electronic records so as to retain a more complete history for each person.
Malman Law provides legal representation to Chicago and Illinois residents who seek nursing home negligence compensation and help with nursing home abuse cases that involve such issues as unexplained falls and fractures, financial exploitation, medication errors, bedsores, malnutrition, emotional trauma, and more.
