Dr. Black’s Eye Associates Gives Back to its Community with Operation Sight
JEFFERSONVILLE, In (PRWEB) July 05, 2017 -- In honor of National Sight Week 2017 (October 24-28) and in an effort to give back to their community, cataract surgeons Kris Pugh, Brad Black, Curtis Jordan, and Edwin Apenbrinck of Dr. Black’s Eye Associates are volunteering their expertise to Operation Sight. This charitable network of volunteers made up of eye surgeons and staff comes together under the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) foundation to provide care to Americans unable to access or afford cataract surgery.
“The ASCRS foundation was formed thanks to some forward-thinking eye care professionals looking to bring other eye experts together, collect and share research, and improve sight around the world,” says Dr. Apenbrinck. “Operation Sight is one of several humanitarian efforts put together by ASCRS.”
According to Dr. Black, Operation Sight focuses specifically on cataract correction. “Cataracts are a condition shared by millions of people,” he says, “and they can cause significant vision loss if left untreated.”
This is one of the main reasons the charitable program was launched in 2014. Dr. Pugh explains that it works by matching eligible patients with volunteer surgeons. “It helps hundreds of people each year by connecting them to state-of-the-art cataract care free of charge. A cause like this is something our team loves to repeatedly support.”
In fact, many Operation Sight volunteers across the U.S. celebrate National Sight Week annually by performing a large number of charitable surgeries during that week. This donation of time and services tends to attract even more physicians looking to lend a hand.
“As the number of volunteers grows,” says Dr. Jordan, “so does our ability to reach out to the many people who could benefit from Operation Sight’s assistance. At Dr. Black’s Eye Associates, we’re especially grateful to be able to serve even more people in our area through this program. We love what we do. Vision care is our passion, and every year we look forward to giving back to the community that makes our practice possible.”
