NEW YORK, April 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Overtime, the fast-growing sports network for the digital generation, announced today that it's creating an all-day basketball experience in Brooklyn in May.
Overtime Takeover is a complete reimagining of what a basketball event can be. The event –which takes place on Saturday, May 18th– will feature an afternoon of free, interactive activities for fans (including an opportunity to participate in the Overtime Challenge) and an exclusive evening event where 24 of the country's most talented and influential athletes will battle for supremacy on the court. Overtime will capture it all, for release as a movie following the event.
Overtime Takeover will be unlike any basketball event you've ever seen. These 12 boys and 12 girls –a who's who of who's next in basketball– will play each other in 3-on-3 teams, competing in a different format with different rules that keep the game fresh. They will also participate in a dunk showcase where they will show off their style, athleticism... and of course, their dunks.
For the event, Overtime is teaming up with Converse to transform the historic Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse into an intimate space, built from the ground up to provide a cinematic backdrop that energizes the experience for attendees and brings the games alive on film. It will look like nothing you'd ever see in a traditional game.
The space will feature a specially designed basketball court, a gaming area, and a retail space where fans can check out new and exclusive gear from Overtime and Converse – including the recently unveiled All Star Pro BB, whose unique performance benefits are designed to match the versatility of today's player. The event serves as the first time consumers will be able to see, touch and feel this modern performance sneaker, which is ushering the original basketball brand back into performance.
"Over the past two years, we have changed the game in how these emerging stars are covered," said Zack Weiner, Overtime's co-founder and president. "Now, we want to reimagine the game itself. We're excited to work with Converse to break down every aspect of the experience –the players, the rules, and the environment– and create something totally new."
The Overtime Takeover retail pop-up will offer a first look at Overtime's new seasonal line of t-shirts, hoodies, outerwear and accessories, some of which will be available for pre-order for delivery later this spring. Consumers can also check out the new Converse All Star Pro BB, and buy the latest from Converse, with exciting opportunities for customization.
A variety of fun activities are happening during the daytime:
- Overtime Larry will host real-life Overtime Challenges, testing fans' skills and agility. Can they beat Larry?
- Sneaker artist Sierato will be onsite, showing how he creates his iconic designs for celebrities and athletes.
- Fans will be able to compete in mini-games on-court with sports entertainer Rachel DeMita, Jason "White Chocolate" Williams, Larry "Bone Collector" Williams and three-time NBA slam dunk champion Nate Robinson, among others.
- Hip hop illusionist Jibrizy will perform his unique brand of magic.
- Some of New York's favorite food trucks will be onsite, serving up the goods.
- And did we mention that there will be SPECIAL GUESTS…?
Overtime Takeover takes place at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse (67 West Street in Brooklyn). Activities will run from 11am-3pm, followed by exclusive evening events starting at 4pm. For the daytime events, people can RSVP for free via https://www.eventbrite.com/e/overtime-takeover-tickets-60531611680; entry will be on a first come, first served basis. The evening portion of the event is invitation-only.
In support of the NYC grassroots community, Overtime has teamed up with 15 local youth organizations throughout the five boroughs that make a daily difference in the community through sports and academic enrichment. Overtime will also be making monetary contributions to each of the invited organizations, in addition to providing gear and transportation to and from the Overtime Takeover event.
